You are right Mule, those are not a cdi, they are just like an old fashioned points and coil ignition system except the points have been replaced by a transistor and the ignition timing is calculated and adjusted in the ignition unit. The coil and ignition unit both run off the battery.

I love this group of folks. Everyone shares their knowledge so freely and there isn't any fb type crap. Mech is this ignition the same as on my 91 Hilux 22re? I had to replace the ignitor once.

And I'll say it once again! I hate it when the sparkulator don't spark.

Thats a good thought, i may do that just for fun, no telling what they would charge to do that, but nobody around here brings this old stuff to a dealer, they charge more to fix them than the bike is worth, that's why you see so many junked ones. Example: I have a 2003 Cadillac it was my mothers car, pristene condition 45,000 miles on it,  took it to the dealer, they did not even want to work on it , said the car is older than most of their mechanics, this certainly isn't the world I grew up in ,changing daily.

    Scarily so.

I'd be hesitant to  use a brush cutter attachment for a quad. I think sharp stubs of brush  could likely too easily puncture tires. One would be ok for mowing  jobs. I can't see it as a haying machine.

I agree with haying to harvest it, but just to cut it down it looks ideal.  I'd have one if it was in the budget. I think that tires that handle all the rocks we ride over here In West Virginia can handle those staubs.

  4. Since this op I've seen 3 different used pull hehind mowers on FB Marketplace. Mech the one I plan on using is a vertical shaft. The 16 hp briggs in my old Bolens is a horizontal, same l head configuration. Your son might like these pics. With, and without the cooling shroud. I love the farmer applied crack repairs. I'm fixing to copy his deck roller replacement. His method will replace them all for around $25.00. New ones are available for about $150..

  5. I've a thought, don't know if it's worthwhile but... Has anyone used any sort of rubber protectant on their boots. I'm bringing back an old machine that sat in the field of lost dreams for years. The boots aren't ripped or dry rotted but I would like them to last a while.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  6. Personally I research and read reviews. Plus it depends on what you want the end product to be. A full restoration is different from a functional usable machine. General fasteners- hardware store. Carburetor, rebuild what I have or search ebay for an oem that hits my price point. Facebook market place can be good for bodywork. Or maybe a complete parts machine. Tires for the machine I'm building now are going to be from Kenda, there are some on Amazon that look really good at almost half the price. But reading reviews outside of Amazon I'm thinking they may not be a.good investment. I've a tight budget for the equipment on the farm here and am always looking to save money. I try to keep the mechanics of things in the best shape I can but don't worry what they look like.
