buy the kit its very easy to do im a motorcycle tech and those break all the time i broke one today. you unscrew it pull out the cable and sping and take off everything up to the rubber boot covering the plastic piece and just put on new pieces it goes rubber boot, plastic nut, spring, piece on end of cable. then screw it back in thats it. just remember its only supposed to be handtight
