  1. Took my tracks off a week ago and got the bike ready for some serious dirt rid’in this year ... I hope. :hurrayc:

I changed the front & rear diff fluids, the gear box fluid, engine oil, filter, put on a new belt (try’in a Gates G-Force this time), new plugs, greased the Bad Boy, and then put all the skid plates back on ... and the tires & wheels of course .... :smilielol5c:

Decided to drive about 100 miles South of where I live to the Old Pony Express Route in the West Desert by a small township named Vernon. Went out there because I figured there would be less or no snow compared to some other desert places I ride sometimes this time of year. Well, there was plenty of snow to play in & it kept me out of a couple places .... but there is so much area out there a guy could ride for days. :partyc:

On the way back to the truck I opened her up a little ... at 65mph I decided that was fast enough. However, I could tell she still had more .... so maybe next time ... :woot:

Saw lots of deer, but only got one to hold still long enough to take a photo. I also saw a few Antelope & the one in the video kept running in the same direction I was riding, so when I got my chance I snapped a photo of him too. :coolgleamAc:

Had a great day out there and I think I’ll head out there again next week. Did about 46 miles, which put me 2.2 miles short of 1700 total miles on the Canned Ham in less than one years time. I have eight more days before I have that one year on my new bike, so by the end of the next ride, I’ll have about 1750 ... if I push it !! :icon_bsc:

Hope you enjoy the video .... :cheers2c:

  2. hey gunny, what camera are you running? and what app are you doing your editing with?

I'm using the Drift HD170 helmet camera. I really lik'em too !! :partyc:

There's a new smaller version out too, but it can't use the extended batteries. So a guy kinda has to choose ...

  3. I’ve been out riding three of the last four days. Had a problem the first day, so didn’t get to ride much. cry.gif

The second day, I decide to head up in the late morning, when the snow is melting. I get up there & it’s soft & wet. Clods of snow are fly’in & I’m hav’in a pretty good time. Traction was pretty good too, but every now & then the bike would just sink. Kinda made your .... ah .... made you pucker !! omg.gif

Then today, I head out real early to see if it’s better to ride when the snow has frozen a little. It’s not. The crust made it a bugger to steer. Yes, even with power steering. Half the tracks would be down into the crust which was about 3 or 4 inches thick & you just could not steer out of it. sweatdrop.gif

And when the entire bike fell thru ... WHOA !! ... Give’er some gas Pedro !! scooter.gif

But had a great time regardless. Did a little play’in on some hills but didn’t want to get to crazy because I’m runn’in a used belt until my new ones show up. vbac4767983.gif

Look’in at the our local weather, it’s gonna be touch & go with track’in for me. 50’s F in the mountains all week with a storm com’in this weekend. But still fairly warm even then. So I’m gonna try & get out as much as possible while the gett’in & track’in is still fairly good !! woohoo1.gif

Hope you enjoy the video !! Happy%20Mugs.gif

  4. I would say for a full set of sport quad plastics, it'd be around $600. So, roughly $200-250 more.

Close. I paid $600 for the front & rear fenders, gas tank cover & 4 fender flares. I then had to buy some new decals & heat shielding. :bannana_guitar:

Factory camo fenders alone where either $1300 or $1900, can't remember. :shock2:

A sport bike would be cheaper of course. But remember, with the Hydro-dipping you can get "CUSTOM" fenders .... :cheer: ... :cheer:

  5. that really is a cool process ... how is it holding up? i know you clear coat after it's done, just wondered what it's like in the bush ...

  6. cool vid Gunny, sorry to hear of your troubles... pain in the a$$ getting towed !!

    THANKS Oxidized Dude !! :cheers2c:

No ... it was more of a pain in the left leg ... on one uphill pull, I got off the bike & was try'in to help push it & steer .... the left rear track caught my foot & pulled me under :blush5c: ... thought I was back in the dunes with paddles ... and I wish I had THAT on video ... :smilielol5c: ... :smilielol5c:

  8. We had just had 3 days of storminess & the mountains got some good snow .... along with the storms we had lots of high winds. So my buddy and I decided to “Go Track’in” !! :cheers2c:

At the elevation we had decided to ride (7200 ft), I was expecting 8 to maybe 12 inches of fresh snow ... WRONG !! ... on the ridges it wasn’t too bad ... but any low spot or East facing hill it was DEEP !! Had it coming up over my front bumper & my box was pushing it in some places.

My buddy told me I was piss’in him off !! Cause I was pretty much go’in any place I wanted ... and he was gett’in stuck !! :toetap05c: After the stuck in the video ... where we hurry up & dig him out, we decided to go back to the main road/trail. It was still blown over with soft snow, and we made a couple side detours ... After about the fourth time my buddy got stuck, he just stayed in my tracks. And then my belt let go. Guess I worked it too hard !! :dammit:

I also figured with the clutching I have & the smaller drive sprockets on my tracks, running in high was A-OK !!! ..... should have known better in this really deep & soft snow ... cause I think the belt just got to hot & let some of the inside gogs go .... DAMN IT !! :brickwall:

And even THAT wouldn’t have been too bad .... but three weeks ago, I took the spare belt & tools out of my box !! :aargh: Took 2 1/2 hours to tow me 3 miles ... Oh yeah, guess what’s go’in BACK into my box !!! :wasntme:

I also forgot to adjust the exposure on my helmet cam so the video is kinda washed out ... but I hope you enjoy it !! :cheer:

  9. If you do not have a newer computer it will be very hard to edit HD. I found this out the hard way. I dropped all that cash on a recorder and then had to go out and buy a new computer. One trip alone places me at about 5 to 8 gigs of data for HD.

Gunny what are some of your file sizes before editing?

Swampy ... I start & stop my video cam about every 10 minutes max. I have a 32 gig card in each camea, I usually video all day long & I've never used much over 2 gig in each camera. :comp10:

But, I have my cameras setup to record in 720p, not 1080p, because 1080p will use a lot more memory on your card. :crash:

thanks swampcat07, i think i'm ok with the computer, 2yo hp quad core/1 tb hd ... i had heard the gopros eat up alot of memory, have a couple 8gig sd cards for my camera, but would definately get a 16gig for the cam. what program do you use to edit your vids?

Oxidized Guy ... I'm not sure what file format the GoPro HD is recording in. Some file formats do take up more space. :brickwall:

The Drift cameras I have record in an .mov file format :woot: ..... If the GoPro is recording in say, an .avi file format, then yes, they will use up a card a lot quicker. :censored:

    ...

  10. i'll tell you what i really enjoy with your vids....

i enjoy your music selections and i like your editing... and of course the scenery

i would like to know what video editing program you have, (as i am getting a gopro cam for the summer)

    and thanks again :notworthy:

Thanks Dude !! ... I spend as much time picking a tune as I do editing the video clip. :crash:

Right now, I'm using PowerDirector10 for my editing software. If ya don't have a 64 bit computer, look at PD 9 too.

Both programs will edit HD video. :cheers2c:

  11. Haven't been out on the tracks for a little over a week .... so last nite, I decided, Enough was Enough !! angry-smiley-005.gif ... I was go'in rid'in bye_prv.gif .... Rain, Snow or Shine !! woohoo1.gif

Took a few pics .... these drifts are the ones I was play'in on in the video dated 12 Jan 2012 ... they've grown a mite, don't ya think !!?? eek.gif
