I bought a bear tracker off a friend who said it last ran a year and a half ago. He was going to use it, went to use it and it wouldn't start. He took it to the dealership, and they told him it needed $1200 worth of work one of the things being it needed a new stator. I bought an aftermarket stator and in put it in, rebuilt the carb and changed the oil filter, installed a new petcock and gave it a new battery (voltage is 12.8) and oil. I turn the ignition on and I see a green N light on. I turn the ignition switch to run and push start and I hear the click of the solenoid and the starter cranks but the 4-wheeler never turns over. I have pulled the spark plug and have ground it to the motor housing. I try push run, but I do not see any spark from the spark plug, not even once. What should I look to next? I can't for the life of me find a CDI box on my model. If I do it must look and be at a different location of where I am looking, nor can I find a CDI at any parts store which leads me to believe my model doesn't have one. Please excuse the ignorance as I am new to this, but I do have a rectifier and ECU that I do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just don't know what readings I should be getting from the pickup coil, stator, ignition coil, etc. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give!

Hi, I have an 04 bear tracker, with a minor starting quirk. It starts in gear with brake in. Neutral and Reverse lights work. But when trying to start in neutral, there is no click or attempt to start with the push button. However if i pull up on the shifter (not hard enough to shift into first though) the neutral light goes off and the start button works and it starts fine. All gears shift fine with no issues, has anyone seen this before? Just wondering if it is a bad sensor or something needs adjusting. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey boys, so a little update with my Yamaha, I now have the CDI box that came in and it’s getting really good spark, but when I go to turn it over, I hear a clanking noise that sounds like something is loose, so I took the stator cover off and my flywheel came off the crank and was magnetized on the stator, nothing serious but like it was unbolted. Is there a way I can keep it from coming off when I turn the motor over? I heard you gotta torque it down with an impact but idk if it’ll work for sure and I’m trying to get this bike back on the road/trails, but at the same time, I’m at the end of my rope with it because it’s getting aggy, but if anyone knows how I can make the flywheel stay on, lmk because some help would be gladly appreciated.

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum. What I got is a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250, got it as a project on trade and the problem I’m dealing with is a “no spark” problem and been trying to hunt down the cause for two weeks. I’ve replaced the stator, pick up coil, CDI, wiring harness, ignition, coil pack, spark plug, solenoid, battery, etc. and I’m still not getting any luck. Even tried bypassing the kill switch. I also noticed two things on this quad, another CDI under the back plastic by the voltage regulator, and a blue and green wire coming from the motor behind the foot shift, tried to hook it up but it broke off and I’m thinking the broken wire would cause it to have no spark, if not then I need someone’s help on this and wanna see if I can get spark again. If anyone knows why I have this problem, the help would be greatly appreciated.

I rolled my bear tracker 250 and it won't start. Where is the saftey and how do I reset it?

I just purchased the ATV and it run really rough with the breather filter on and lid on the breather box. Once I take the lid off and remove the filter it runs better but it backfires through the carb. What could I do to fix this. The carb is fairly new. And I put high grade non ethanol gas in it hoping it would help some.

Hey guys, I have lurked here for about 7 years (thanks for the yearly birthday wishes!) I posted 7 years ago that we bought a used Yamaha Bear tracker.. and we have had many adventures since then, but half of them have been repair “Adventures” It stopped starting (Even pull start) last year and I tried the basics (Spark plug, clean carb etc) I took it into a shop and they did EVERYTHING to get it to spark. New coil, replaced the entire handlebar cluster (Switches, coil, starter switch, neutral safety, and finally replaced the entire wiring harness.) It simply won’t even try to start. Pulling the pull cord doesn’t start it. After paying for their time and efforts (Over $1000) I dragged it home dead... This shop only “Fixes” things using OEM factory parts and won’t “Jury rig” anything... so if there was a creative way to bypass the entire thing to just start it, they couldn’t really discuss it. I did ask the mechanic when I was loading it up “What would YOU do if this was your ATV at home and you had these issues?” He said he experimented with bypassing the kill switched and it turned over. I didn’t think to ask HOW he bypassed the kill switch, but it sounds like that’s my culprit! So how do I bypass the kill switch on a 2003 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250? Or, is there a way to Hotwire it so I can start it without the starter button (In case that’s the issue, even though it shouldn’t be since the entire handlebar cluster is new.... it seems haunted at this point!

When I turn my key on the neutral light doesn't come on. I can jump the starter relay and it comes turns the starter but it won't start. The sky blue wire is connected. New battery, start button, cdi box, starter relay, sparkplug, sparkplug cable, rectifier and regulator, and new key.

Hey everyone, thank you in advance for any information shared. I have a 99 yamaha beartracker 250 that I am restoring (not to oem specs). I am having trouble finding suspension parts other than ball joints. Does anyone know where i can find shocks/springs for this atv? Are there other yamaha atvs that have interchangeable parts? Or what options might i have. I typically use this quad for hunting, getting around the farm, and trailriding. Thank yall again for any info. The trailriding includes moderate hill climbs, creek beds, and wet/dry trails
