The second season of racing for the GCQRA is in full swing and rounds 1 and 2 are now in the record books. Round 1 saw the kick off of the “Pin it to Win it Series” come to life with a staggering 154 entries! Series sponsor Honda of Houston, 3-Palm Extreme Sports Park and the GCQRA brought out the big guns for the inaugural race of the season and quad racers from all over came for what proved to be one of the biggest quad events ever held in South Texas.
National pro-am racer Chris Brian set the tone in the Expert and Pro-Am classes by taking the win in both classes. The battle for 2nd in the Pro-Am class was being fought by locals Brandon Eaves, Steven McBride and Anthony Jackson with Eaves taking 2nd, McBride 3rd and Jackson 4th. The Expert main saw Brian hauling in the first place cash with Daniel Donnan banking 2nd and Greg Livanec in 3rd.
With over 53 riders entered from the super-mini down to the pee-wee classes, the little kids were the big story for the weekend as new riders duked it out with kids returning for their 2nd and 3rd seasons of competing. 2006 GCQRA Rider of the Year, J.D. Head picked up where he left off in 2006 by dominating the Super Stock class with a 1-1 finish and the overall. Ryan Callahan scored big in the A class with wins in rounds 1 and 2.
Round 2 had a big treat as National pros passing through Texas on their way to California, stopped by for Saturday practice and put on a show that left a lasting impact on young and old alike. John Natalie, Chad Wienen, Harold Goodman and Greg Gee put their skills on display during private 20 minute practice sessions which saw the fences lined with gawking spectators dreaming of the day they too could tail-whip over 90 foot finish line table tops!
Chris Brian once again dominated the Expert and Pro-Am ranks for round 2. While the real battle was for 2nd between Greg “Supersonic” Livanec and Daniel Donnan seeing Livanec take the 2nd overall.
