The unit seems to work great except 4th gear.  When I use the foot shifter to go into 4th gear the unit makes chattering noise.  Almost as if some teeth are missing on a gear. Even though it makes this noise, it still seems to run ok in 4th.  However I always shift right away into 5th gear which works just fine.  Has anybody experienced this and found the cause and solution?

I had this situation with 3rd gear on a Honda 200x three wheeler several years ago. It was a constant humming in 3rd gear, not just when first shifting into it. Yours only makes the noise when shifting into 4th but once there it stops? Mine ended up being a chewed up gear, when then took out the corresponding gear on the other shaft. So I had to split the cases and replace two gears. A lot of time, but not hard or very much money.

Yes it makes the noise the whole time when I'm in 4th gear,   It's not a humming noise though, it sounds more chattering,   Like you say potentially chewed up gears.

Anybody familiar with this noise from my quad? Just started.  It temporarily goes away when I attempt to shift into another gear but shifting has gotten harder too.

      Thanks

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Any body have a part number for replacing the safety interlock on the left brake so you can start the engine with the brake handle pulled and in gear
or how to bypass this function so you can start in gear
      thanks ahead

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.
