I replaced the fuel pump about a year ago on my wifes 450i.  Ran great, then it blew the fuse..replaced it and ran great but now im not hearing the fuel pump at all.  The voltage is only 8.2 volts to the pump.  Any Ideas where to start looking?  Turns over great and the battery is good???

Well it's probably a bad connection somewhere..  Do you know how to search for a voltage drop.. You put your voltage gauge across connections and/or wires, and look for a voltage being shown where there shouldn't be any because the power's meant to be flowing freely through the wire or connector. So if you put your gauge from the battery positive to the pump, there should be no voltage shown if all the wires and connectors are good. If there is a voltage shown then you have a bad connection somewhere and so some of the power's going through the gauge. You measure across one length of wire, or across one connector or relay at a time till you find the bad connection.

All that said, I think you will find if you check the wiring diagram, that the power possibly  comes from the computer, so you need to check from where it comes out of there, to the pump. It's also possible the power comes from a fuse or relay to the pump, then gets earthed by the computer.. You need the wiring diagram and check for voltage drop all along the power's flow path till you find the place the voltage is dropping. It's a good idea if the power is coming out of the computer, to check it is at full voltage there before you start looking for the drop of voltage along the wires etc.

Understand the basic concept of voltage drop, and then go looking for where that is happening..

Actually.. A quicker test might be to disconnect the pump, and put jumpers to it and to earth and see if it goes at all.. 8 volts should make it make some sound..  Perhaps it's seized.

thanks for the response Mech.  The voltage at the fuse and relay is good, I was going to jump the pump but got side tracked on something else... I read that the tilt sensor controls the pumps voltage and was going to track that down next. I think as you suggested, I will jump the pump. I replaced it last year with an aftermarket, and the fuse did blow first which makes me think it locked up, then ran a bit more when the fuse was replaced and finally crapped out. I'll try to get on it today, but its 18 degrees here this am and its hard getting motivated.......LOL   I'll post the results...Thanks again

I've read a bit about those things before. The tilt switch has a variable voltage, but I don't think it changes the voltage o the pump. It's either on or off as far as I know.

It sounds like you are on to it.

One slightly counter-intuative thing to watch for is that a bad connection, which in theory would lower the current, can blow fuses..

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!
