Hi everybody, need a little help with my 98' King Quad LT-F4WDX. Finally had to replace battery after 4 yrs, good for a battery I think, anyway installed new battery, turned ign switch, press starter switch and heard 1 click, no start. checked main fuse, ok. So the dreaded chapter 14,removal of fenderbody was performed. Then proceeded to run tests found out the starter relayfrom the positive side to the starterfeed side had no continuity, infinity. Ordered new relay, received and installed today turn on ign got a neutral light pushed starter button ,one click and now nothing. I had checked the neutral relay earlier and it showed good so I put it back in. Any ideas fellas? any thing will be appreciated, maybe I have to pull the starter and try field jumping it? I don't get the 1 click and then nothing, could the new relay be faulty? Before installing i performed the continuity tests recommended and it seemed fine🤔20170506_161433.jpgmower.thumb.jpg.1b8a202d126cd6cfaa1531ff13ad7519.jpg

A real common problem with those is the starter brushes. They wear out and they get stuck sometimes/often.

The starter relay has two windings to operate the plunger that closes the contacts. One set of windings earths internally in the relay, and the other set of windings earth through the starter. If the starter brushes are not making good contact the starter relay doesn't get enough power through both sets of windings to pull the plunger and close the contacts. Then you get a click.

I'd use a jumper lead straight to the starter's terminal, or, now you have the body off, straight to the starter lead going to the starter. Put another jumper to an earth and the starter motor should spin. If it doesn't spin, or if it struggles to turn, then it needs pulling out and stripping and a new set of brushes. Easy job. The new brushes come with a new mounting plate and springs and all ready to slip in.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?
