1988 Polaris Trail Boss Output Shaft

So I have an old 2 stroke 4x4 Trail Boss that I learned to drive on as a kid (until it started on fire) that was rewired and done up a few years ago. Fired it up this spring and the chain popped off. The end of the chain tensioner bolt had snapped off. Ended up cutting off the threaded section and welding a new bolt onto it (not the first time this was done by the looks of it) and away I went. Two days later my weld apparently broke and the chain popped off again. Unfortunately this time it piled up and it looks like it snapped the output shaft from the gearbox off. Trying to figure out parts or find a parts machine, but all the Polaris vin search tells me is that it's a 1988. It looks like there were like 4 models of Trail Boss that year, and I have no idea what this one is for sure? A quick Google shows different part #s for the different models shafts, but some of them come with gears and some don't, so they could be the same shaft? If I find a parts machine that is slightly different would I be able to just swap the entire gearbox?

      Wow...I packed a small soft side cooler with an ice pack  at -4 F and inserted my Type K thermocouple sensor inside so I could monitor the temperature without opening.  After 3 hours  the inside temperature was 60  F...OMG!   The ice pack  was solid frozen.   Standard temperature for safe storage is < 40 F.     What I found by asking was that there should be no air space in the cooler.  Packed with Ice preferably ice from connivence store (normally 0 F of less).  Food should take up  short day trip1:1 ratio.
      Good coolers are expensive.

      We rode here the day before the event. This is a DCNR state forest trail system. The story behind the name is miners would put their bottles of whiskey in the local springs to keep them cold until their shift was over. Part of the trail system is on old strip mines so some areas are barren, others are full forest.

      Good morning, I am new to the forum. I'm 75 years old and love getting ATVs back to usable condition. I particularly like the 2006-2009 Arctic Cat 250 Utility. I currently own 6. The 2006 I am working on only has reverse and low gear. The "drive shaft" in the transmission is completely stripped where the high gear would mesh. Has anyone on here replaced the shaft. I'm told I have to split the case. I was hoping that someone on here could let me know how hard it will be. I already have it stripped down to where the shaft coming in from the clutch side is the only thing left. I was hoping I could just remove the driven clutch and drive it out from there. Directions say different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
      What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
      Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?
