Have you ever purchased a quad from an impound auction?

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

 

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

I know every state is different but i went to a few of those auctions, my expirience is if there was anything good it was pulled out before the auction started, most of the stuff was trashed, missing parts, bent frames locked up rear ends etc, the auction is only as good as the people that are running it. So i had better luck with Bonam and Henderson auctions they have them occasionally in my area.

Wow, thanks for the reply. It's cool to get a perspective on that. I take it the good stuff was getting pulled so the workers could have it for themselves?

No I have not but it sounds like it could be a intresting thing to do.

I have been to several high end auctions at Barber Motorsports, they are lots of fun, more motorcycles than ATVs , but surprized at how low some really good stuff goes for.

I've never bought one, but the ATV utvs I have seen at state and locality auctions are usually wrecked. Military auctions are usually different because they auction based on age.

Never been to a military auction, always wanted to and just never been at the right place at the right time.

These days just about all  of the military auctions are online at ironplanet.com. it's a lot easier to do, but also you don't get as good of a price. Maybe 15 years ago now I bought a lot of 6 11*20 tires for $600. Shipping was almost the same but still a hell of a deal
