So now this "new to me" Kowhockey has ANOTHER problem. Replacing the rectifier cured the charging problem, rode around for a while, Yahoo!.. but this morning it wouldn't start, hmm 🤔 checking for spark, nuttin.. CDI igniter module bad. It's not the coil because when the key is turned off the spark knocks me down. Glad I got this old quad cheap because I'm replacing lots of electrical parts. Also found 3 blown fuses in the toolkit. 😭

Multi pin connectors are usually suspect when you see  amps when unit is off...0.05 +-amps probably tolerable. Pulling fuses to reduce /eliminate current is an easy check.   Howeve,  Multi pin connectors will short out one pin to another and cause bat drain

BTW Tie Wraps on high VDC ignition leads are bad.  Many times guys will 'hog down' on tie wraps pulling the wire tight to metal (its grounded) housing.

On industrial controls high voltage igniter wires laying pressed tight to metal  would cause control relay chatter on 120 vac circuits and play hell with low voltage  circuits  and frequency controllers.

You got to love it   ...it's like a murder mystery!

BTW I will mention it however, I am sure you guys know this but others may not. Do not use water-soluble flux when soldering cu wires.  Water-soluble flux will corrode the wires to dust.

And while I am venting on pet peeves....When trouble shooting one of the first things is "Tug And Pull "  No I am not talking about my hair. I've been around enough construction sites  to know how men's minds function.....LOL but tug  pull wire terminations.

Next look for unstripped wires at terminals. when the plastic is under the terminal  you will get no connectivity or worse yet intermittent connectivity.  Screw terminals for landing wires is the best (Point to point wiring).  I absolutely hate "Punch down Terminal blocks".  ( The wire is unstripped and placed over 'V' block and then punched into the V...😡

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Bought a 88 big bear 350 4x4 took it for a run and lost spark, found it was stator so I replaced that then took it for a long run and it sat for 2 days and no spark again, this time stator tests good on ohms and voltage for source and pick up coils so I started replacing things including regulator, ignition, ignition coil and plug cap, spark plug and everything tests great including all safety switches until the orange wire for ignition coil from the cdi it only reads 3 volts so I replaced the cdi and still 3 volts, any ideas??

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!
