Wow...I packed a small soft side cooler with an ice pack  at -4 F and inserted my Type K thermocouple sensor inside so I could monitor the temperature without opening.  After 3 hours  the inside temperature was 60  F...OMG!   The ice pack  was solid frozen.   Standard temperature for safe storage is < 40 F.     What I found by asking was that there should be no air space in the cooler.  Packed with Ice preferably ice from connivence store (normally 0 F of less).  Food should take up  short day trip1:1 ratio.

Good coolers are expensive.

I totally agree that beer must stay cold, but for the main meal, a warm, re-constituted freeze dried meal is hard to beat out in the wilderness.  A small butane or white gas stove provides the heat, and your canteen provides the water, and ten minutes of time to a hot meal.

If the packaging is not compromised, freeze dried foods will handle any environment a human can endure.

For disclosure:  I used to work for a freeze drying company.

I like my 12v  fridge/ freezer For packing stuff that needs to stay cold,  Yes, they're expensive but far cheaper than ending up with spoiled food  and warm beer.

That is what I use for camping, keeps the food & beers cold with no ice. I have one that has a small freezer section so I can freeze ice packs to take during the day ride.

well the small cooler bags are dangerous if not packed with ice.

.Ha Ha cold beer...I like milk that does not need to be refrigerated. AKA Shelf Stable milk...first saw it in Europe.  Over there you could pick the butterfat content...WOW!

But of course evaporated milk can be kept unrefrigerated....evaporated condensed milk was introduced commercially  back in 1864 ....Can you says "Gail Borden" Elsie the Cow?

Totally agree.    LOL..  I  have a Harvest Right  freeze dryer I got on sale  at Costco  last year.  My 82nd  birthday present to myself.  A game changer in making trail food and snacks  Freeze dry and package up  food in  vacuum sealed bags..  Great meals and  snacks,  almost no weight  and worry about  spoilage ,

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.

Interesting Jumper Pack. No battery to die and works well. It is basically a string of capacitors that takes the minimun voltage that is in your battery , even though its not enough to start the machine, it is enough to fill the capacitors and boost the battery for starting. The only problem is if the battery is completely dead wont do any good, but you can charge it in 2 minutes with your car battery. Interesting idea if the capacitors hold up, time will tell.

I rebuilt the top end on my 2007 Honda Trx500fe. It ran fine right after the rebuilt. But now when I try to crank it it blows Bach through the carburetor. I held my hand over the opening for the intake air and it blew gas back on my hand. Can figure out what happened all of a sudden. It was cranking and was able to ride it running through all the gears. Now can get it to crank just blowing gas back to the air filter. Need help again. Starting to think I should have walked away from this one.
