I just bought an 88 quadrunner 250 ond it would have trouble starting sometimes. I figured the carb needed cleaning. I cleaned the carb put it back together, drained all the bad gas out of the tank and put fresh gas in it. when i tried to start it all it would do is crank and not fire off. the carb is getting gas and there is spark. tried putting gas in motor and a little in the spark plug still no firing off. i took the valve cover off and turned the motor but from as far as i can tell neither valves is moving. unsure if the valves just froze or just need adjusting. It was running when i bought it a few days ago but he sayed it was hard to start some times which makes me think it had asticking valve problem. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

They are either stuck or bent, adjustment will help neither of those conditions. If they are bent, you will need to take the head off and replace the vavles, everything else should be replaced too, springs, seals, guides, retainers. A vavle grind should be done as well. If they are just stuck, start by removing the retainers and springs. The springs will most likely need to be replaced, and everything else should be inspected, new seals wouldn't hurt. You need to make sure the vave moves freely through the guide by spinning it around while you move it up and down, there should be no sticking or binding. This of course needs to be done while the piston is down to make room for the intruding vavle. Be very careful not to drop the valve into the cylinder. The cam and rest of the valvetrain should be checked for wear as well.

After i did my rebuild it seems to not want to shift well. I think the cable is alright, and when it does shift its nice and solid. I have to basically use my hand to shift and i have to pull or push it very far, like max travel, to get it to shift. I also tried adjusting the clutch set screw. Any ideas where to go next, or maybe i should just grab a new cable to try.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?
