2002 Yamaha Beartracker 250. I get .19vac into the coil but nothing at the plug. There is no spark. It was running fine, and then I didn't start it for 2 months and this is what I'm faced with. I keep it in a shop and out of the weather.

What voltage should I read input to the coil and output to the plug?

I ordered a full service manual yesterday, but thought someone on here might have some experience. Thanks

You won't get any voltage at the coil wire unless the CDI is making it fire. Typical coil output to the spark plug is like 40,000 volts. I don't think that there is really any voltage coils primary terminal either, unless the CDI is firing. As I understand it, the CDI takes the 12v input and coverts it to around 600v AC using an internal inverter. When the CDI gets the trigger signal from the pickup coil, the internal capacitor discharges the 600v charge to the primary terminal on the coil. The coil turns that 600v into the 40,000 volts needed to jump the spark plug gap with a strong enough spark to ignite the air/fuel mix in the combustion chamber. I would recommend testing the voltage at the coil's primary terminal while someone is turning the motor over for you. You should get a better reading that way. If the voltage is several hundred volts or shows a relatively high, fluctuating reading, then your problem is likely the coil. If the voltage is low and, I would suspect the CDI is the problem, if there is none, or next to none and doesn't fluctuate, I would say the pickup coil is bad. I think the best thing to do though is wait for that manual, because I am generalizing, and your quad may use a slightly different style of ignition. Also, the repair manual will have some directions and specs for some direct resistance tests to test some of your ignition components. One thing I would recommend is inspecting for loose connections, bad/corroded grounds, or wires with worn insulation.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Another good idea is to check your wiring and the switch. I went round and round with Polaris everyone telling me it was the stator and wanting me to pay for a new one and come to find out it was just a loose wire/bad contact.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Bought a 88 big bear 350 4x4 took it for a run and lost spark, found it was stator so I replaced that then took it for a long run and it sat for 2 days and no spark again, this time stator tests good on ohms and voltage for source and pick up coils so I started replacing things including regulator, ignition, ignition coil and plug cap, spark plug and everything tests great including all safety switches until the orange wire for ignition coil from the cdi it only reads 3 volts so I replaced the cdi and still 3 volts, any ideas??

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hello all, I have a 2006 Polaris Sawtooth with no spark. It has a dead battery but with a jump pack on it, it will still not Spark. Plug is good, Throttle ETC is not closed, Stator pick up coil seems to Ohm out in the correct range, Unsure how to properly check the CDI. And when ignition is on the Neutral and reverse light come on but after cranking just the neutral stays on.

      Any help would be great,

      Thanks!

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks
