I have been working on a suspended kart project for use on 1/8-1/4 mile dirt tracks in the area. I know this question is going to open up a can of worms but I am going to ask any how, which ATV engine(s) should I bee looking at using for the power plant of this mini-racer? My original thought was to use a 400ex engine but I thought I would throw this out there for open discussion.

Thanks

A 400ex engine is a solid reliable choice, but not the fastest motor you could use. If you want to stay air cooled, you might consider an '84 or earlier ATC 250R motor. If you don't mind going using a motor that uses a centrifugal clutch, an old Oddysey motor would be a good choice, they had 250cc 2-stroke motors in the '77-'84 models and 350cc 2-strokes in the '85 model, all were air cooled. An old air cooled snomobile motor would also be a good route, maybe you can fit a big twin cylinder in there and really make that thing hausl as*.

It had been brought to my attention that for the application we are working on that a water-cooled engine might be a better option than an air-cooled one. Also it has been brought up about using a CR500 dirt bike engine.

CR-500 motors are the motor of choice for 500cc Outlaw Kart racing. It is a great motor, and make a ton of torque even stock form. I don't know how much of an issue the vibrations are in the kart. I would visit an Outlaw Kart racing forum and get some info from those guys. I do know that they make custom motor specific mounts for use in karts. Here is a link that shows the mounts, the ones on top, BM-500 are for CR 500 motors.

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.
My husband and me are getting ready to host the 2nd Quad Runners event at our nudist campground. The first one (last year) went pretty well with about 20 quads attending and have to say, it was a smaller group, but they made up for their size with the large interest in partying and there was plenty of nudity as the Saturday night went on.
We have decided to host another one this summer, but we are looking for some fun (but safe) riding events. Our grounds are almost all flat and remember we are a nudist campground so many of us are bare as* naked so "slow ride" events would be the best.
Give us your thoughts and ideas and feel free to ask us anything you would like, and we will answer right here in the thread.
Thanks for your help and ride safe.
BTW, let us know what "anything goes" means for this thread section.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Hi guys, I was given a 2000 Honda Recon fourtrax 250 (I think that's the full name lol). The previous owner had it sitting for a while before I got it. It sat for another few years in my ownership. I got it up and going on its first test drive today!! I was wondering where everyone buys their parts from?  Coming from the car community, we have sites like RockAuto and many more. Anything like that for quads? Also would like to be pointed in a direction, if possible, for plastics. I am missing a few and would like to have it complete. I appreciate any input!

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?

Just picked up an 84 LT185 ATV, I understand there was an accessory add  on that gave it electric start, anyone have any info about that kit?
