I've had my king quad for eleven years and never run into this problem. It starts great and runs great for about five minutes. As soon as I go to take off, it sputters and dies if I don't drop back to idle. It will idle fine after that but basically won't go anywhere. It acts as if there is a restriction in the fuel lines or something like that. I did find one blockage in the main fuel line from the tank, checked all vaccum lines to carb, and changed the spark plug. Plug was basically clean and not majorly worn, just fuel washed. It's got the same oil leak at the head it's had since 2002. Nothing else has changed. It's the middle of deer season and I've got to have my quad up and running! Any thoughts?

I chased this same problem on my 96 king quad.......... for 2 years..........

had the carb apart 4 times, new fuel pump, etc etc

It used to start great and run great for a few minutes.............

It would sit there and idle all day ............. but punch the throttle........... and it would miss and sputter.

One day I noticed that if I engaged the starter ( I have a remote swith so I can start in any gear at any time ......... trying to find neutral with a trailer full of rocks or wood on a steep slope was a pain) .............

In any case, the thing ran good............ but only if the starter was engaged.

I replaced the starter solonid............ no help, checke the wiring , fuses............ no help..........

I found using the head lights on helped............ and now ride with the lights on and even added another bulb to "load the system.

Don't ask me why it works.............. it just does. If I turn off the lights, or the additional electrical load I added............ the thing sputters and will not rev up................ yet it will idle just fine.

Add a load to the battery............ and it runs good.........

Hope this helps,

Eric

HA! It worked....sort of. I choked and started as usual and flicked on the headlights. Immediately it sputtered...so I turned them off and waited for it to act up like it has been.

I turned on the lights again and sure enough...it got better! It's not up to par, but a marked improvement. At least its' mobile again.

So this got me thinking...why? A buddy of mines girlfriend rolled my quad a couple of years ago and ever since then the headlight switch has been flaky. The lights flicker at times, etc. I'm wondering if over the years this short has gotten worse and my current problem is the result.

I guess it's finally time to replace the switch and see what happens. I might end up with an extra draw on my lights too.

Thanks for the post! It's a huge relief.

Hisun 700 EFI. Replaced TMAP sensor had broken off . Fuel pump pressure 41psi. The only way I can keep it running (and runs fine) is to close off fuel return line.

This thing came with a cheap aftermarket carb on it the problem I'm having is it won't start with choke installed into carburetor it will start and get run without it installed then bogs out after about 2 min run time I've checked timing , compression, checked valves for proper clearance , also did a smoke test for air leaks found none.

I picked up this ATV that had no spark. The previous owner said he was driving it and it died and would not start. He discovered it had no spark. He replaced the CDI and the coil with no luck. He got tired of it and I bought it. I replaced the stater and now it has strong spark. Now, it starts for a second or two then dies. It will not stay running. I have checked the timing and it is spot on. The valves are adjusted correctly. I see no warn issues with the cam. I put the original CDI and coil back on it. Same problem exists. Compression is at 65 psi (has decompression mechanism),
I took off the muffler in case the issue was clogged pipes. No change. I replaced the spark plug. No change. The carb was an aftermarket so I put a Niche carb on with no change. I bypassed the fuel pump and that did nothing to solve the problem.
I don't know if this is a carb issue or an ignition issue. I am looking around locally for an OEM carb to try out but not sure that will fix the problem.
Can anyone help me solve this problem. I am running out of ideas.
      Thank you for your time
      Bill

Hi All.  I introduced myself some weeks ago with my 2006 LT-F400F that needed a list of repairs including replacing the cracked generator cover.  It is back together as of last night and cranks up, idles and revs high pretty well.  Needs some fine tuning and stop backfiring at stop.
The big issue is it will not go into gear.  I reassembled the insides with help from y’all’s posts.  The transfer selector moves from H-L-R, and the foot shifter moves thru the gears and finds neutral easily enough.  Before I tear it back open, the  transfer selector on top does not move as far as the repair manual says.  The diagram shows the shaft moving something like 40 degrees between L and H and 50+ degrees between L and R but it doesn’t move that far even though it finds the indent areas and moves well.
Could this be the problem.  I aligned all the dots on the shifter gears inside and it appeared to not be binding anywhere.  I do hear the gears touching when I shift like they are trying to engage, but zero movement from the ARV
It was somewhat difficult to tell whether all the parts are installed on each shaft.
Are there better/bigger photos somewhere that would allow me to be confident I included all the washers and bushings, etc?  If I had any doubt on parts that were laying inside after the cover broke then I purchased replacements from online stores.
TIA for any input or feedback!!  Pics are from when I first took the generator cover off.
