YAMAHA 2014 GRIZZLY 550 FI EPS vs HONDA TRX420 PG

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,I would like to have some input from knowledgeable guys in the ATV world. It would be my first ATV and I kind of narrowed it down to these two models, got the quotes but I can't make up my mind which one to buy. I like them both, but there are few details that make the difference.YAMAHA 2014 GRIZZLY 550 FI EPS vs HONDA TRX420 PG

Few things that make the difference-

-More power 550 ( Yamaha) vs 420 (Honda) cc

- Higher ground clearance 11.8" (Yamaha) vs 9.1" (Honda)

- Bigger fuel capacity 20L (Yamaha) vs 13.3L (Honda)

- Lock differential Yes ( Yamaha) No ( Honda)

- Quoted Price ( best I got for out the door) Yamaha about 1000 more expensive than Honda

- Honda's known reliability vs Yamaha's second best ( I may be wrong here, this is just word of mouth from here and there)

The fact Yamaha has a sealed variable v-belt for its Ultramatic transmission can be considered a disadvantage vs Honda's transmission ?There is one thing that I'm not sure about. They both have almost similar weight but different size engines, how do you think fuel consumption would be in one vs the other. This is about fuel capacity rather than saving on gas, if the gas consumption is about the same ( not sure here), that 13.3 L on Honda really bothers me.What else ? What's your opinion ?Thanks in advance to all that will post a reply to this.

Which quad did you end up getting? We just bought a new 420cc IRS AT Honda and a Kawasaki 650 4x4i. The Honda is a really good quad. I hear good things about the Yamaha too.

Also that 13.3L(3.5 gallon) doesn't include the reserve. Our Honda has a 17L(4.5 gallon) including the reserve.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.
