CDI HELP NEEDED!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi... new to forum first post, have a 2005 raptor 350 and 84 atc200es and just picked up a 2001 yamaha big bear 400 2wd. It was only $500 so i bought it knowing there was no spark. Well to start i tested everything by the book fuses, kill switch, main switch, neutral switch, parking brake switch, ignition coil, pickup coil, dirction coil, stator and all of the connections in between soooo......i need a cdi problem is I can't find a cdi anywhere, searched by part number model also searched possible interchangables, no dice. It's part number is 5fu-00 F8T36471 9910. Any help on if i can use another model or where i can possible find a replacement. Not sure if this helps but it has a 8 pin and 6 pin connector. Thanks in advance for any answers  I'm stumped.

Yea I found those after I posted this. The funny thing though is the one that I have is actually as 2000 on a 01...odd.  I'm going to my local parts shop tomorrow to see if the have anything. Even if it's a little more money I'll buy it instead of going through those types of sites. The review a just horrible. Thanks for the quick reply.

So I bought one through a dealer in California, they had the best price. Genuine yamaha part not a aftermarket. Plugged it up and a it fired right up. When it started I heard the flywheel hitting the pickup coil so I had to take it apart again but I just tipped it on its side. Not all the way, I leaned it against something so I didn't have to drain the oil.

Sure enough there was a nick on the pickup coil but it still worked fine so I loosened it, pushed it back fully which was only 1/16th or so. Put it all back together and it was good to go.

Thanks for the help all!!!!

So I have an 89 Yamaha moto 4 250cc and when I ride it, itll get hot after like 10-15 mins and then will just die and turn off.
It's has new carb rebuild, new air filter, new battery, new spark plug so I don't think it's a crack in the spark plug
      Can anyone help me?

I had a sudden loss of spark in my 1988 Suzuki LT300E quadrunner and we tried a new plug but still no spark. Then we checked the boot and there was no issues with it. I then took off the coil as I was going to get a resistance reading with a multimeter however I cannot find anywhere what the readings should be. The coil is a Mitsubishi F6T 411. Any help would be appreciated.

Oil is getting in the air box from crankcase vent tube, I put the two hoses that go to the air box together then something started to smoke on the front of the engine. There is a filter? In the line I blew that out.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?
