New member here...hey everyone,

Well, here's my dilemma... I picked up this 1987 Yamaha warrior... [ didn't run ] hope I didn't get beat on this one.. anyway, the electric start didn't work so I'm in the process of putting in a new flywheel ... the woodruff key broke from the crankshaft.. in the process after taking the flywheel off I see that the plastic timing chain guide on the front side of the crank shaft has falling off... and looks like its a molded piece that it is made to fit in broke off somehow... my question is...is this guide vital to the timing chain?... i attached photos of what i saw when i opened up the side case. I am also changing out the stator while i have it open... I don't have spark yet..I changed out the solenoid, coil, ignition, regulator...and now the stator... hope it works ( to get spark ) but now I have this new issue... Any help on this matter would be highly appreciated...Thanks

While you're in there  I'd  change that timing sprocket too.  It's showing a fair bit of wear .. Yes,  you want those guides in place to  keep the  chain from  jumping on the  sprocket  and throwing  the valve timing  out. I don't  know  about that  motor but on some  motors if  the valve timing  is  out  or  the   chain  is  broken the piston  can  hit the  valves.. and  good  bye  motor.  Was  the  keyway in  the  crankshaft damaged?   You  could be  looking at some  major repairs to  the motor with a new  crankshaft in the  works if the  keyway  is slopped  out .

Yes thanks Dave for the reply, when I opened it up The keyway was missing, Looks like a Idiot put a rivet in near the damaged case to try and keep the guide in place. The lower guide fell out and wont stay on...I probably have to find a good left side engine case for it to function! The person I bought it from said he rebuilt the top end but now I'm afraid to open it up! YIKES!!!

      Hi,
I have an 04 bear tracker, with a minor starting quirk. It starts in gear with brake in.  Neutral and Reverse lights work.
But when trying to start in neutral, there is no click or attempt to start with the push button.
However if i pull up on the shifter (not hard enough to shift into first though) the neutral light goes off and the start button works and it starts fine.
All gears shift fine with no issues,  has anyone seen this before?  Just wondering if it is a bad sensor or something needs adjusting.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

      Hello.
I'm new to the forum, I live in the UK. I have just bought a 1995 Yamaha Moto 4 350.
Generally the condition isn't too bad (I paid very little for it!), it looks quite original and all the plastics are quite good. The bad bits are no brakes, the rear axle bearings are shot and the transmission won't shift through the gears properly.
I'm not planning on a full rebuild but I would like to sort it out a bit. The transmission is my main concern. If anyone has any ideas on what might be the cause I would be grateful. I can explain what's happening in more detail if required.
      Thanks everyone,
      Kester

I bought a bear tracker off a friend who said it last ran a year and a half ago. He was going to use it, went to use it and it wouldn't start. He took it to the dealership, and they told him it needed $1200 worth of work one of the things being it needed a new stator.
I bought an aftermarket stator and in put it in, rebuilt the carb and changed the oil filter, installed a new petcock and gave it a new battery (voltage is 12.8) and oil.
I turn the ignition on and I see a green N light on. I turn the ignition switch to run and push start and I hear the click of the solenoid and the starter cranks but the 4-wheeler never turns over.
I have pulled the spark plug and have ground it to the motor housing. I try push run, but I do not see any spark from the spark plug, not even once.
What should I look to next? I can't for the life of me find a CDI box on my model. If I do it must look and be at a different location of where I am looking, nor can I find a CDI at any parts store which leads me to believe my model doesn't have one.
Please excuse the ignorance as I am new to this, but I do have a rectifier and ECU that I do so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just don't know what readings I should be getting from the pickup coil, stator, ignition coil, etc.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give!
