1988 Honda fourtrax 300 electrical short

My 1988 Honda 300 fourtrax has a short all of sudden neutral light works but when I put on headlight nothing can't start it unless kick start please help

I know it sounds stupid but have you checked your battery ? Could be a dead cell that will show a little power. Also it could be your regulator/rectifier.  Take a tester when the bike is running and test the voltage at the battery during idle and rev it as well and see if it fluctuates on the tester.

battery is new and when its running the lights work fine nice and bright also when I turn the key on it takes about5 seconds before the neutral light comes on thank you for helping

My guess would be the regulator.

Ok and that's in the front right?

Under the seat by the battery in that area

Any other options on what might be wrong please help

Could be the starter relay, have you looked into all of the components of the electrical side of the bike. Check the relay and see what happens when you jump it. 
See if the engine cranks, there is also a neutral safety switch that you should look into as well. There are also other relays as well within the starting system so bottom line is your going to have to go part by part and check everything. If your not clear on how things work then feel free to ask.
