I know a lot of people say not to use anything but Oem. For the sake of the those who chose not to, or the OEM part cost more than the project, lets hold back negative comments.

I just purchased a carburetor that is supposed to be up to OEM specs. The company has a good reputation on eBay and Amazon. The Carb is supposed to be for this bike and jetted exactly.

This question should basically go under carb adjustment. I installed the new carb, the bike idles fine. On throttle it sputters half the time and the other half it will rev up fine. Does this sound like the needle is set at the wrong point? Does it sound like the main jet is the wrong size? Or is there another adjustment besides the air/fuel screw thats is 2 turns out?

Yes i could truck through old threads and possibly find the answer, but i thought it would be nice to have one tailored to new carb installs.

Is there a backfire when it bogs out? What does the plug look like? What was done to the bike besides a new carb? Why did you buy a new carb?

Just have to check the plug. Could be rich or lean. Jets in Chinese carbs are sometimes the wrong size or not stamped at all so they are tough to tune. If you have the old carb use the old jets if you can. I've used chinese from zoom zoom and they're decent for a clone but still hard to fine tune.

The new carb was installed for two reasons, the old carb was an old style that had two throttle cables. Plus it wasn't working properly after i rebuilt it. Nothing has been done besides the carb and starter rebuild. It had sat over 3 years and ran fine when parked. The throttle cable broke on me so i was stuck with that. Made a new throttle cable for this new carb out of the old set up. The plug is brand spanking new and i even put the old one back in and it does the same thing. It does backfire back into the air-box sometimes when it sputters. If you goose it hard it wants to die. If you slowly rev it half the time it try's to die half it revs fine. The exhaust is not clogged and the air filter is new but not oiled. Idk if they required oil, but it is a foam filter.

Yea it is a zoom zoom. It seems a tad rich or black, but its hard to tell since your supposed to check in mid power band.

Im in the fine tuning but they said its stock jetting. Im waiting in them to give me more tuning instructions.

Im probably going to switch main jets and go from there.

Use the old jets if they will interchange and I bet it'll perk up. Good reason to change carbs though, those dual throttle cables are way expensive. I've used a couple of zoom zoom carbs and they're not terrible. Last one i had the jets were stamped with a knock off K for kehin and weren't even close to spec. I used the old jets and it wasn't too bad. matter of fact I have a box full of clone jets bc i just can't make them run perfect.

lol an old 250r racer i knew used to drill his own sizes. They may be good for that but he used to race 250r 3wheelers then quads on alcohol. So that was all a headache on its own. Yea ill start with the main jet change and see what it does. The pilot jet should be fine since it idles great. It does backfire quit a bit on throttle.

Well after i did the swap it was close to the same. I did fractions of a turn on the air fuel screw and it quit backfiring....as of right now its a pass in my book. Main jet may have been a thousands off. Or a bur in it.

Another odd issue I had with a clone carb once was the needle point. It had a blunt taper on it so it was slower to open fuel. I had to switch that from an old carb also that has a smooth needle design.

      Hello all!
I was given a 2000 Suzuki Quadrunner 500 (Quad 500 Runner?) and its current state is a bit of a mystery!
Kept indoors but hasn't been run in 5 years.  We're not trying the engine until the gas is replaced, and the tires are reinflated. But the previous owner said their only issue was stalling when shifting to reverse without giving some throttle.
      I'm optimistic!  See y'all around!

      Hello there
I'm having a problem finding a quality carburetor for a 1993 Suzuki Quad Runner lt-f 250 2x4. I find a lot that have 3-4 star ratings. And all so far don't have the right throttle Cable inlet at the top. The last one I got 4 star on Amazon has a threaded cable sheath rest that could be partially drilled to work. I would prefer to get one I don't have to modify. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago, I foolishly asked my girlfriend about a quad that's been sitting under a tree at her parents' place for 25 years... This thread will be a sort of log of my attempt to resurrect it. I'm actually a computer guy, not a mechanic, so this will be quite conical for some of you, I'm fairly sure 🤣
So far I've found out it's likely a 200. Not sure what year yet... The frame has a serial of 53J-001343 (I think). Engine appears to have the same number.
We inflated the tyres on Saturday, which were still up today, so that seems a win. This also confirmed that the wheels do turn, as it rolled back into its 25 year old indentations as the 4th tyre started coming up.
Oil looks used but otherwise OK. I'll change it if I actually get it running, but looks good enough for attempting to start it up again.
Fuel tank had.... something in it. It smelt more like old stagnant water than fuel of any sort. Drained that out and flushed some clean fuel through to be sure.
Fuel tap was jammed in the off position. WD40 and some force got it free. Did that after the fuel hose was off, so hopefully the carb isn't full of whatever it was in the ttank.
Engine turns fairly easily with the rope start. Made typical exhaust puffing sounds.
Unfortunately the rope mechanism was not fully rewinding, so I was limited to about half its length... And today it jammed fully pulled out. I attempted to remove the rusty screws, but one stripped it's head out. So for now the rope rewind is jammed.
Spark plug connector seems possibly burnt inside. Black crap on both the plug and up in the connector, and the connector doesn't seem to actually stay on.
Throttle lever is stuck fast. See photo for possible reason... Cable also feels jammed. I assume the throttle itself is jammed. That'll be fun given my skill level.
Electrical stuff all seems dead. No headlights. No starter. No indicator lights. Could be a fuse. Could be bad connection. Not something I'm too worried about at this point.
Front brake handle works. Parking brake clip thing was bent out of shape, but that's now fixed and working. Front brake only works on one wheel. Other one seemed rusted in place (off). WD40 and hammer got it free, although still stiff. Cable might be broken as it doesn't move at all when the handle is pulled.
Rear foot brake works but needs adjusting.
Other handlebar lever doesn't budge. Not sure if that's a clutch lever or rear brake... If this is the 200 version, I gather it's got a centrifugal clutch so it would be a brake lever... But I'm not yet sure exactly which model I'm working with. And the cables all disappear under the plastics and fuel tank and I didn't bother trying to trace where it goes yet.
Thats probably about it for this post.

Hi, I am new to  this forum and I am happy to be here.  I purchased a Yamaha 350 Big Bear without a title and I cannot find a Vin number to find out what year it is.  I am hoping someone here can help me identify this atv. I checked on the main frame near the front A-arm left side found nothing.  I checked up near the radiator and found nothing.  Where else should I look?  See image below.
