  1. Well after i did the swap it was close to the same. I did fractions of a turn on the air fuel screw and it quit backfiring....as of right now its a pass in my book. Main jet may have been a thousands off. Or a bur in it.
  2. lol an old 250r racer i knew used to drill his own sizes. They may be good for that but he used to race 250r 3wheelers then quads on alcohol. So that was all a headache on its own. Yea ill start with the main jet change and see what it does. The pilot jet should be fine since it idles great. It does backfire quit a bit on throttle.
  3. The new carb was installed for two reasons, the old carb was an old style that had two throttle cables. Plus it wasn't working properly after i rebuilt it. Nothing has been done besides the carb and starter rebuild. It had sat over 3 years and ran fine when parked. The throttle cable broke on me so i was stuck with that. Made a new throttle cable for this new carb out of the old set up. The plug is brand spanking new and i even put the old one back in and it does the same thing. It does backfire back into the air-box sometimes when it sputters. If you goose it hard it wants to die. If you slowly rev it half the time it try's to die half it revs fine. The exhaust is not clogged and the air filter is new but not oiled. Idk if they required oil, but it is a foam filter. Yea it is a zoom zoom. It seems a tad rich or black, but its hard to tell since your supposed to check in mid power band. Im in the fine tuning but they said its stock jetting. Im waiting in them to give me more tuning instructions. Im probably going to switch main jets and go from there.
  4. I know a lot of people say not to use anything but Oem. For the sake of the those who chose not to, or the OEM part cost more than the project, lets hold back negative comments. I just purchased a carburetor that is supposed to be up to OEM specs. The company has a good reputation on eBay and Amazon. The Carb is supposed to be for this bike and jetted exactly. This question should basically go under carb adjustment. I installed the new carb, the bike idles fine. On throttle it sputters half the time and the other half it will rev up fine. Does this sound like the needle is set at the wrong point? Does it sound like the main jet is the wrong size? Or is there another adjustment besides the air/fuel screw thats is 2 turns out? Yes i could truck through old threads and possibly find the answer, but i thought it would be nice to have one tailored to new carb installs.
  5. I had gotten this vynl for I think $120 9 years ago. It held up real nice on trails. I put it over Maier plastic to protect it. Frank is right though, it will get expensive on a big bike.
  6. Yea, maybe the polarity is backwards. Take the starter off and put your finger on the gear it should turn (in the whole). The starter needs to turn the direction the gear cant be pushed with your finger. That resistance is the direction the starter should turn to start it. That is if this year bike doesn't jump out to engage like a car starter. I believe the starter gear should turn right, it does on my yamaha.
  7. Initially i cleaned the carb in an ultrasonic cleaner. 3year old fould slimey cosmoline was everywhere south of the slide. The needle and seat was stuck and i couldn't get it out. So was the actual needle. The only thing i didn't do was put new parts in the carb. Surprisingly everything cleaned up well. The choke operates fine. The air/fuel screw was good. Thats the only thing i didn't take out when the old tank dumped nasty into the fresh carb. I will check that tomorrow. I also have a good plug setting in the garage for it. Ill try that and the screw tomorrow. I also just ordered a b carb kit. Just in case the diaphragm is cracked. All jets were clear, but the pilot jet is tricky. I had to soak it and take a fine brass wire brush, pull the wire and poke it in the jet, along with compressed air. Still yet its a very tiny hole. It says its a 45. Also, i don't have a manual. Im waiting to download one from here, but idk how or when that will be. Question: how do you adjust the float height? When i put it back together i made for sure the needle pulls out quite a bit. The only way i could adjust it is bend the tab i guess. 1. I will check the screw and plug tomorrow. 2. If it doesn't work ill wait on the rebuild kit. 3. Ultrasonic cleaner with half pinsol and water works wonders on carb parts! Thanks Frank Also, how do i upload videos? The format from my Iphone must me mest up. It doesn't show the video in the thread.
  8. Dang, idk how i missed that. You think it will fit the moto4 350 carb? Thanks
  9. I cleaned the carb and re installed it. All jets and ports were clean. I drained the gas tank of the three year old fuel and put a gallon of fresh in it. It would then fire up and die on choke. I then removed the carb again and found black goo in the pilot. I mad sure all ports were clear and blew all debris out of the bowl. I am now useing a different tank with a filter until wash the other one. I reinstalled carb and it now kinda runs on choke while sputtering. That was after i toggled the accelerator enough to warm it up. As well as toggling the idle. The air fuel screw is at 2 out like it originally was. There is a video included below. C42F977E-2282-4C5E-BFC3-B5DC6175890C.MOV D1A4330D-620B-4202-91F5-3ACEAB5BDC1B.MOV I don't know why but the video isn't playing when uploaded.
  10. This diagram is off of a warrior, i found what seems to be the part online but im not putting that much in it, especially if i dont even know how it runs. Im going to try to get it to idle today. Diagram part num 21 is what the assembly looks like. I need the one cable that goes from where it splits to the needle on top of the carb. Thanks
  11. On a side note, i replaced the brushes on my starter, they were $10 off eBay and it worked. The symptoms of the starter was it was going slow, or not at all unless you tapped it. IF....you take your STARTER....apart, put a line down the side. I haven't taken motor theory class yet but, it was reverse polarity twice after i put it together, i guess i had the magnets in the wrong spot.
  12. @MIKEL5469 Are you still able to get service manuals? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  13. Ive been flirting with this idea. Ive done the sanding and hit it with a heat gun after, but that was on my black Honda 450r plastic. It was ok, i ended up wrapping it in vinyl, that gave me the best results.
  14. Mine was doing the same thing. I took the starter apart and cleaned it, i also analyzed the brushes, i got 15-20 starts out of it, I'm waiting on a rebuild. Dc motors wear out the brushes, so it could just be that. They make a rebuild (replacement brushes) for my 350, but if the brushes are not worn down, it could be something else. Also, you can use jumper cables on the starter itself to see if it is the culprit.
