Hello all!

A friend of mine has this particular 4 wheeler. It sat in the garage for about a year, so I redid the carb, cleaned the tank and installed a new petcock. So far, it cranks right away whether its button started or pull started. So I have a couple of questions concerning the carb and air filter.

1. Is this a cvk32 250 or 350 carb? As the air fuel ratio adjustment is different according to a cvk document I read. What's your adjustment setting? 2 whole turns and a 1/8 or 2 whole turns and a 1/2? Comparing the old setting on the carb to the new setting (and where the needle sits now), makes me think it was way off before.

2. The Air filter cover, gasket, air filter and plate element are all missing. So I was thinking of removing the hose that goes to the air box and put one of those K&N style looking filters and be done with it. So my question is.. will I have to readjust Air Fuel screw or just adjust Idle?

It's just going to be driven around the neighborhood.

Thanks in advance for any info or help. Y'all stay safe out there!

Welcome to the forum.

1. I usually go 2 turns and then adjust by ear where it's the happiest at idle.  That may be anywhere between 2 and 3.

2. You'll probably have to readjust fuel screw.  Not having the resistance of an air filter on the carb messes with everything.  If the only remaining piece is the hose that goes to the box, try to use that with a filter on the end.  The air filter is better off further up towards the back shielded than it is close to the hot motor.  Carbs aren't a fan of hot air...the cooler the better.

Alright! Thanks MarkinAR!

Appreciate your Informative response. Didn't even consider the colder air for the carb. Thanks again for the info and the welcome.

My name is Marty, I'm 36, married with 3 kids. I work as a Robot and Controls Software Engineer in the automation industry with a lot of mechanical and electrical background. I have 2 Suzuki LT230s, one is a 1985 230 Shaft, the other is a 1987 230 quadrunner. The shaft has been amazing since the day i bought it about 5 years ago. The quadrunner was picked up as a project, it had a previous electrical fire due to improper splicing by previous owner, It has a wiseco high comp piston in it and all the gaskets have been redone. Im currently crafting replacement wires for a new harness im building for it. I gave the 230 shaft to my 12 year old daughter and she loves it, it is such a great and reliable machine. Im currently looking for a repair manual so that she can learn how to do her own maintenance.
I also built a 79cc predator powered quad for my 7 year old daughter from a blown up Temu quad i got for cheap.
I look forward to meeting some of you and learning some along the way!
