my 2002 KQ 300 is a real barn find,  came without fenders and the only plastic on it is the 2 small panels below fuel tank.

Almost too embarrassed to post a photo as it needs more than a little work.

Anyway i am a good TIG welder so was thinking of making up alum checker plate fenders and battery support.

Has anyone else given up on the plastic body panels and made up their own "skin" ?

Not me. The thing about the plastic is that it takes the knocks so well.. The plastic before it's been in the sun for years is tough and flexible as.. I've patched broken old plastics with alloy plate underneath but it got bent eventually and distorted the plastic out of place so I had to panelbeat the alloy again. Metal will get bent... Well it does around here !

And if it makes you feel any better..  My sons used to ride a bike like that, in our swamp, and getting covered in stinking mud.. They loved it.

i will probably just do mudguards, or i was even thinking i could try the fiberglass/plastric ones you can buy for boat trailers, the Quads will be used on a trail besdie a mangrove creek mainly for my mudcrab and fishing, so might be easier to wash salt off with less plastic surrounding quad

my 6X6 plastic is really tough and i havent been able to damage it yet

Haha.. I like it..

my 6X6 plastic is really tough "and i havent been able to damage it yet" ..

How fast does it go ? Does it have suspension ? Is the seat like a motorbike, or a car ?
