Hey guys. Just wanted to say hi.

Im usually a forum lurker and I'm sure I will be doing that here quite a bit in the future, but I need to get to those downloads!

Today I picked up a 1995 KLF300C. The plastics are in pretty good condition but the rest of it needs some work.

Didn't have a ton of free time to look it over today but I noticed a few things

-pull cord is either busted or was put on wrong

-What I think is the reverse lockout is just hanging in a hole in the plastic and is not hooked up in any meaningful way

-fuel valve is leaking which reveals a startling amount of ethanol sludge

-exhaust is 99% rust

I wasn't able to confirm I was in neutral so not sure if it will turn over but I imagine something electric is in need of replacing

Altogether I think it's gonna be a bit of work and learning, I've never had a Kawasaki before. But I only paid 100 bucks for it so I'm not too worried.

Where do you guys think I should start with this thing?

Anyway good to be here! I look forward to pursuing the forum frequently!

Congrats on the quad, thats a great price. You can't go wrong there. You could resell it now for much more. From the pic, it looks pretty good. I would search around for a cheap exhaust, used maybe from ebay. Is that the fuel petcock leaking? If so, they are cheap on amazon:

Kawasaki Bayou Fuel Petcock

Look for the pull start online as well, shoudn't be too much. Change the oil/filter.

Thanis for the response! I'm definitely planning on keeping it. I know I can get it running eventually. I'm a car mechanic, have several Sea-Doo's, and have a Honda TRX400 I've done a lot of work on so I'm not shy about work.

Yes it is the petcock leaking, unfortunately the level ethanol sludge that's coming out of it really tells me I'm in for more than just that. I'll probably do a full overhaul on the fuel system. The tank smells like varnish, I've never come across a fuel system that stinks quite like this one.

Pull starter is on the list, but I'm not entirely sure if it's broken or the gears going into the motor are stripped. Still have to pull it off.

It's going to be a slow roll, I largely bought this thing so my wife's 11 year old an I have a project to work on together and ultimately it will be his if we get it going. He's only with us in the summer so I don't think I'm gonna touch this thing till he gets here in 2 weeks.

Anyway thanks again for the response! I look forward to using this forum a lot. I've already done quite a bit of reading on here and my confidence level is going up. These Kawasakis seem pretty straightforward which I appreciate coming from the finicky world of Sea-Doo's.

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum.
I have been riding quads for the last 20 years, however my quads are extremely old and outdated, all three are about 20 years old LOL.
I have been looking at upgrading, but need your input.
I've narrowed it down to the Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S or the Honda FourTrax Foreman 4x4 EPS
      What do you guys think?

Have a high heat issue on the right side panel on my 2021 cforce 400, as complained about by the wife.
My heat gun shows after 15 minute ride in ambient 91 deg temps;  690 degrees on front end of muffler close to entry pipe and 375 on exit side of muffler.  The right side plastic (where wife's leg would touch) was showing 175 degrees.  This is rediculous!.
As I understand the muffler has a built in catalytic converter which obviously kicks off high heat particularly at front end of muffler, but the heat is atrocious.
What is everyone doing about this problem?  Is there a replacement muffler to eliminate this issue?
