I picked up a 2004 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 abut a year ago. I've been having an issue when the bike gets wet the fuse for the headlights blows. This seems to kill the headlights and taillights as well as the speedometer light. This may be unrelated but the 4WD indicator light also doesn't work. Not sure where to start on this issue. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

It's a bit strange that water could blow a fuse. Normally it takes quite a bit of current to do that, and water doesn't conduct much current. Are you sure it's the water causing it, not something else associated with the water, like the big drop into the river say ?

If you are sure it is water causing it, use a garden hose and carefully wet one bit of the electricals at a time, allowing time for it to sink in, till the fuse blows ?

Could be coincidence. I mostly use the 4 wheeler for plowing. Seemed to happen when I ran up the road to plow another driveway. Figured it may be the slush and snow still on the road. Also seemed to happen on a trail ride, no big drops though. I've also added 2 pod lights to bike but they're direct to the battery on their own fuse and shouldn't cause issues with the other lights.

Yeah good though Gwbarm..  Might be a good idea to check the current drain at the fuse.

And yeah Clinej, it could be, and probably is, a coincident.. There are symptoms, and their are circumstances, and we need to take careful note of each when we are diagnosing problems. And, if we can, we should try and confirm what the one thing is that always causes the problem, eliminating the coincidences, and the contributing but not cause factors. Then we can carry out the certain to cause the problem routine, to confirm that the problem is definitely fixed.

Might be a good idea to go for a longer faster ride sometime when it's not wet or snowing and see if it does it..

After i did my rebuild it seems to not want to shift well. I think the cable is alright, and when it does shift its nice and solid. I have to basically use my hand to shift and i have to pull or push it very far, like max travel, to get it to shift. I also tried adjusting the clutch set screw. Any ideas where to go next, or maybe i should just grab a new cable to try.

      Hi
Is looking for a quad to pull a flail mower as my first priority, but also a bit of fun.
So its going to be pulling a flail mower on high grass / weed on a bumpy field at pretty low speed.
My budget is not high, so is mostly looking at a old Yamaha Kodiak 400cc / Suzuki Eiger 400cc or similar.
What machine would you recommend  ?  - Really want a solid machine since I am no mechanic but can perform a early service myself.

(English is not my native, hope it makes sense)

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

I am having an issue with a hs500. I bought it broken and have been trying to get it running. It seems to be starving for fuel. If I put my hand over the intake it will crank but will not run for very long because I'm not able to get the correct airflow with my hand. The things I have done so far are. Replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, mass airflow sensor, idle air adjuster, fuel injector, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the ecu, and still the same issue. I notice the injector does not spray when removed from the head. I dont know if that is common.

I am out of ideas on what to do next. I have removed the fuel line from the injector and it is getting plenty of fuel. If anyone has an idea on what could possibly be the issue I would be happy to try anything at this point.
