Had fire start in muffler due to failing fuel pump &/or fuel pressure regulator.  Must I spend the $750+ for a new assembly from Arctic Cat?!?  Here's what I've tried so far.

  • Replaced fuel pump & regulator - both from Quantum.
  • PSI is 60 rather than the 42 the dealer advises it should be, so problem persists.
    •  I've now twice replaced the Quantum regulator & discussed w/ Quantum.
    • They advise that they don't have an alternative regulator that would bring PSI down to 42.
  • I've tried several in-line, adjustable pressure regulators but they either didn't work or I couldn't get a constant pressure from them.
    • FYI, I've only tried the adjustable regulators for Fuel Injected engines however, it seems that they require vacuum to function properly.

When I can temporarily get the PSI right, everything works great.  Anyone else ever dealt with this problem, and, if so how did you fix it?  Perhaps I should adapt the fuel system to include a gas tank return line?

Any insights are greatly appreciated, Don

If that bike has a barometric pressure sensor that calculates altitude, I'd check that sensor was communicating with the ecu properly.

The dash gauge will show you what it's reading if you put it into diagnostic mode..  I think.

I'm reading an 2016 Alterra 550 manual..

Thanx, Mech.  I'll take a look.

What came of your ATV Fuel pressure issue? I have a 2010 H1 550 EFI with a similar challenge.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Good morning, I am new to the forum. I'm 75 years old and love getting ATVs back to usable condition. I particularly like the 2006-2009 Arctic Cat 250 Utility. I currently own 6. The 2006 I am working on only has reverse and low gear. The "drive shaft" in the transmission is completely stripped where the high gear would mesh. Has anyone on here replaced the shaft. I'm told I have to split the case. I was hoping that someone on here could let me know how hard it will be. I already have it stripped down to where the shaft coming in from the clutch side is the only thing left. I was hoping I could just remove the driven clutch and drive it out from there. Directions say different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
