Had the starter solenoid hang 87 Big Bear while I was riding it. Wrecked the battery. Put a new battery and solenoid in. Wont start with the starter, but will start with the rope and runs great. The fuse is good, but I don’t have any continuity through the circuit breaker. I’m assuming there should be. Can’t find one online, can I replace it with a fuse? Posted a picture of the circuit breaker.

Are you sure that's a circuit breaker ?

If it is, circuit breakers are like fuses, except they self reset once the over load has gone away. They are usually used on essential and safety circuits.. like headlights or ignition.

I reckon itt might pay to check it with an ohm gauge and see whether it conducts one way but not the other, or, in through a wire and out that metal plate, but not the other way..  It looks to me more like some sort of semi-conductor.

Back when that bike was made, circuit breakers were crude electro-mechanical devices, not solid state electronics like that thing you have there..

I checked it with a digital volt meter and there’s no continuity. Yamaha Parts House calls or a circuit breaker.

I found a fuse housing and wired it in temporarily and it cranked right over. I’ll have to find a waterproof one.

It doesn't look to me to have any moving parts..

Any chance of a side view ? Or behind..

And if it is a circuit breaker then sure a fuse will do the job. Depending on what it was protecting though, you may need a standard auto fuse, or a slow blow fuse. A standard fuse may keep blowing due to startup current if it was for the fan for instance, but a slow blow fuse will tolerate that two second overload.

I don’t know why the circuit breaker protects, I’ll have to look at the electrical diagram. The only fuse I had was a 2 amp, started the atv twice and didn’t blow it.  I’ll have to pick up some fuses when I get to town next week.

I am unable to find a wiring diagram for this UTV.  When I turn the switch to on, the contractor does not engage.  The Brake pressure switch and the parking brake switches work correctly. What else should I be looking for?  All of the diagrams I have found are for newer models and the wire color coding is different.

      Thanks

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage
