Hello I have a 1999 Honda 300 4w/drive and I just replaced the Oem carburetor with a aftermarket carburetor after installing the carb on the bike it started great and idled like new one but when I shifted into first gear and tried to move forward it died, I shifted back In neutral and the wheeler started easy again I let it set there to see if maybe it needed to warm up but when I shifted into first and tried accelerating it died again, I am not a use to working on it and would appreciate any advise thanks

If it died right out, as soon as the bike moved, then I'd be suspecting an electrical problem..

But I'd probably try adjusting/checking the idle mixture setting first in case it is that simple.. I wouldn't pull a carb off though till I'd discounted the electrical problem as a cause. Which could be done by attaching a timing light and watching the flash as you tried to move forwards. If the flashing stopped before the engine stopped rotating, then it is an electrical problem.

Could be electrical connect disturbed by putting carb in and out, but i suspect the new aftermarket is too lean, never had one do as you describe, usually they just stumble a little on accelaeration and then catch up, and always idle perfectly. The question i might have is did it do this before replacing carb, or why was carb replaced.

Definitely look for any electrical problem right around the carb area if it does seem likely to be electrical.. Probably/possibly bumped some chafed wire while working on the carb.

As Gw says, they mostly stumble and carry on but not till they get moving, and they don't normally die right out..

Thank y’all for the help with my problem, I ended up adjusting the air / fuel mixture and it took me a couple of times but is running better then it has in a long time.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!
