Last time I put up my 2004 Honda Rubicon AT I had no issues. Now, I get it out for four wheeling and it "--" blinking on the display when in neutral. I look it up in the owner's manual and it says to turn it off and back on to reset the automatic transmission. That works. Then, I find that it goes in D & R roughly and also it makes a sound (like a fan or dry bearings) when it's in neutral. No noises in D or R. All fluids are clean and full.

Any ideas about Honda Automatic transmission noises in Neutral?

The most common problem is a shift angle sensor. It tells the tranny what gear you want. With the -- I would suspect that to be it as they are usually trouble free. It a sensor that screws into the back of the trans and faces the rear tire. If you don't normally get -- then you might make sure it is plugged in....if it is, I'll bet that is the problem.

Yep, already checked out all the circuit for the angle sensor and it was bad. I've replaced it but same problem. The odd thing is that it does it after the engine/transmission is warm. It subtransmission is smooth and quiet until it warms up.

correct fluids? it wasn't low? I'll have to think about this one...usually angle sensor fixes it. You might unhook the battery overnight. Does this ride spend time in deep water?

it sounds like it is still not reading your angle sensor correctly. hmmm.

The characteristics are: noise after it warms up and and shifts hard from neutral to drive/reverse (after it warms up). When the engines cold it shifts from neutral to drive/revers perfectly and NO noise from the engine/transmission area.

Found out what the problem was! Turns out it was simple. Idling too high. Some way (perhaps when the angle sensor went out) the idle adjusted itself high. Not high enough that I noticed it ....but high. That resulted in the hard shift from neutral to drive/reverse and also the noise in the engine in neutral only.

WoW that sounds very sensitive. Glad you got it fixed.

It's been bugging me since last Tuesday. Of course I fixed the error code but it didn't solve the other problem ....until today. By the way ------ there's a guy in the service shop at SOUTHERN POWER SPORTS in Chattanooga that is GREAT. Nice guy and knows his machines. Big thanks to him!

O3 sat a while. Engine is running fine. I got it into neutral, did some general tune-up and cleaning then pulled the shifter pedal up and it locked up and will not release into neutral again.  Does anyone have experience with this problem?  Thanks for looking and any help.

I have a 2009 Honda Rancher TRX420FA with shifting problems.
Usually it shifts ok when cold but after couple minutes it will stop shifting with no codes.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in first gear is 74psi. The 2nd shift clutch oil pressure when in second gear is 74psi.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in neutral is zero. The problem is when the tranny is in neutral the 2nd shift clutch pressure starts around 10-15psi and builds to 20psi. Is this normal?

Just getting into this issue really. Been replacing solenoids but now I'd like to track down the problem. This time I'm not getting neutral/reverse lights or start button. Was on a creek ride when it started doing this recently. It cranks by arcing the solenoid and gives me no light or start button but if I crank with the pull cord....the neutral light and the button work. Turn it off and try to crank with the key and nothing. I'm looking into the safety switch issue tomorrow and re charging the battery. Just figured this was odd enough of a problem that you guys might be familiar. Thanks

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage
