How do I get ready for storage?

Desert season is over for the year and I need to store my quad in the garage till next season. I am not sure what the best way to store it is. Do I need to drain the gas? Should I do and oil change now or wait until right before my first ride next season? This is my first quad and I am learning as I go.

Well,,,,If you seriously do not plan on riding it until Oct. or so....I would Drain the Fuel,,,Also drain the Carb Bowl or just Fire it up after draining the Fuel and let it run out....Get the tires to where they are not or just Barely touching the Ground,,,Pull the battery and put it on a Trickle charger....

I think that is about it.....

Anyone else have more ideas....????

I also agree above all but i would do the oil change when u r ready to ride again cause its just gonna be sitting there.....take out ur battery, charge it full and store in a cool dry place ur ready to ride again.

changing the oil when it comes to long time storage, now or later is going to get varied responses...some say now some say later. if the oil is dirty and you have free time then go ahead and change the oil. BUT if your not going to use the atv till next season, you can put it on the back burner for a lil while and get to it when you get to it...no harm will be done with oil just sitting in the motor if the atv is not being used that is

Put some kind of stabilizer in the oil, it is best to store with clean oil. You can either drain the gas or put stabilizer in that too, just make sure you run it enough to make sure the stabilized fuel gets to the carb. Seafoam works well, I have had a generator on standby for the last 3 years with the same tank of gas, and have had the same gas in my Blazer for probably 6 years or more. They both have seafoam in the fuel. It works great for cleaning carbon deposits from the motor too.

Sorry I missed this post earlier. Please keep in mind, I am not saying this to be an as*, but storing your motor with dirty oil in it, is not the best idea. Depending on just how dirty the motor is, deposits may form and stick inside the engine, even after you drain the oil out. These gummy deposits can then move about the motor once it is put back into service and clog vital oil passages causing costly damage to the engine. I realize that if you maintain your machine properly, the oil will probably never get dirty enough to cause any real problems, but none the less, it is best to store the machine with fresh oil that has stabilizer in it, or drain it while the motor is still warm so any harmful deposits are more likely to drain out with the oil and store it dry.

      1998 Polaris Magnum 425 starts but dies right away.

      I picked up this ATV that had no spark. The previous owner said he was driving it and it died and would not start. He discovered it had no spark. He replaced the CDI and the coil with no luck. He got tired of it and I bought it. I replaced the stater and now it has strong spark. Now, it starts for a second or two then dies. It will not stay running. I have checked the timing and it is spot on. The valves are adjusted correctly. I see no warn issues with the cam. I put the original CDI and coil back on it. Same problem exists. Compression is at 65 psi (has decompression mechanism),
      I took off the muffler in case the issue was clogged pipes. No change. I replaced the spark plug. No change. The carb was an aftermarket so I put a Niche carb on with no change. I bypassed the fuel pump and that did nothing to solve the problem. 
      I don't know if this is a carb issue or an ignition issue. I am looking around locally for an OEM carb to try out but not sure that will fix the problem. 
      Can anyone help me solve this problem. I am running out of ideas.

      I have replaced the cracked stator cover on my non-running 2006 LT-F400F that I purchased recently, checked all the shafts vs the service manual and pics and advice here.  I replaced missing gears, bushings and washers, made sure that truth marks were all aligned properly, that the shift cam springs felt like they returned properly, etc.  IAfter installing the new stator cover I checked the transfer lever for proper movement from L-H-R and then cranked it up.  Happily, it runs and changes gears well in L,  but it will not shift into H or R for anything.  I have opened it back up and am going back through it looking for the missing puzzle piece(s) but how can I best check that I have everything right this time before buttoning it back up?

      So I decided to pick up a small trailer if I could get one for the right price.  I found this one for a few hundred bucks on Craig’s list.  It is  a galvanized trailer which is exactly what I was looking for. The wood was shot and needed some minor repairs which I could care less about as long as the chassis was good. 
      I striped it down and put a new deck on. I had some vinyl realtree graphics that I had laying around so I added them to the fenders which I think worked out well. Very happy with this little guy.  
      I'm having the iron workers at my jobmake me up a few lightweight side rails that will have a 22 degree bend in them to accommodate the tires that slightly hang over the edge and will incorporate some tie down points as well.
