Kazuma Cougar 250

I just recently bought a new Kazuma Cougar 250 and was curious if anyone else is riding this make/model or having any issues. Admittedly I've done a poor job of perusing older posts.

My experience to date has been satisfactory (ie not great but doable). The bulk of my issues I believe were dealer-related and specifically a complete lack of pre-delivery qc.

Primarily my issues were:

1. Major crud in the gas tank. I'm still emptying out my filter periodically wishing to heck I'd thought to at least empty the tank out and blow it out or something.

2. Just about every lugnut was loose after riding for a couple of hours.

3. The chain needed major adjustment and not just because I'm an old fata**

4. The shocks were set as low as they'd go and when I went to adjust them up I discovered the supplied tool was a mis-cast piece of metal junk.

5. The dealer has yet to send me a manual (he didn't have any upon delivery)

6. There's surface rust all over the place most likely due to poor packaging prior to sea shipment to the US. I actually got to see how they were shipped in rather rugged looking metal-framed crates that clearly took a lot of abuse in transit - I'm talking bent metal framework and everything. A little shrinkwrapping probably would've gone a long way to preventing the premature rust though.

7. She doesn't like to splash though the water - I'm still working on isolating what gets wet that makes it stop running suddenly requiring a good 20min rest to dry out. My buddy's got cash riding on electrical getting wet somewhere.

Given all of that, I'm not unhappy with my purchase but the price I paid (less than $1100) has a lot to do with that. That coupled with the fact that between my friend and I there isn't anything mechanical we can't fix. I'm not sure I'd recommend this brand to someone else frankly - unless they work with a dealer who has a bit more attention to detail than the one I worked with.

I've had mine out to RRMT in Bulcher TX twice now for the weekend and I've put probably a good 30-40 hours total on it. I take it easy through water and she behaves. I think the name I'm giving her pretty much sums it up though: sāobī. That's Chinese for "B*tch"

Starting this build thread to keep up with everything on my build and hope to motivate someone!

I picked up this 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 250 2 weeks ago. A guy that I hunt with parked it at the hunt club for a year or so before I asked him if he wanted to sell. He said " fill my feeder and throw some batteries in my cameras, and you can have it". Sounds like a deal to me!
I have attached some pictures of how it sat under a tarp in the woods and when I got it home and cleaned up a little.

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next
