So i have a 88 Suzuki quadrunner 250. I bought it s few months ago and have not been able to give it any attention until this passed weekend. Together with my automotive mechanic friend we took the carb out and cleaned it really well, drained all the gas that had a little water in it, blew out all the tiny particles with compressor and also blew out the gas line to make sure if is clean. Checked the spark plug to make sure it still looked in good condition and checked for spark and looked good. Filled the tank with fresh gas and put everything back together. We went ot fire it up and no success. Ive read other similar problems on line and think that all of these things are basic trouble shooting solutions except not in my case. Can anyone please give me some insight on what else my buddy and i can take a look at and troubleshoot to get this show on the road. We feel that it should have already started with what we did. By the way, the quad does crank and the motor does turn but doesnt start, not even a putt putt putt; off.

Are you saying it has spark, but will not Fire?

The first thing on any older Suzuki Quad I check is to make sure the crankcase is not filled up with gasoline. If it is check the Rubber Diaphram in the petcock. It is common for these to fail and keep feeding the carb gas until the tank is empty.

I recently re-built a 88 suzuki, and if you have good spark, and your jets are clean, I would look at your enricher. Somtimes those old quads will not start without it. Make sure it can move up and down freely, and that it is connected to your enricher lever.

Try starting it with full throttle. Also, if you are pull starting it, pull back the lever on the right side of the head.

      Hi all,

I am wondering if any of you have a Clutch Starter gear from a 1988 era quadrunner 250 sitting around that you could get me a precise measurement of the outer diameter of the race the sprag engages onto, for me? I need to machine a damaged race down and install a hardened sleeve and need that measurement (it's on a different gear than the OEM one, so I can't buy and use a OEM gear).

I'm in the middle of repairing damage from the chain coming off of this from the previous owner. (I learned this is somewhat common on these for various reasons.)
What are you guys using to either help keep the chain correct and on the sprocket or guarding your engine in the case that it comes off / breaks?
Is there an upgraded guard that can bolt around the sprocket in replacement of the currently broken OEM alluminum?

Hi all.  New to the forum & quads.  Seems like a great place full of info.
I just recently picked up a 2005 Suzuki KingQuad LTA700.  I need a battery.  I've been reading up on conventional vs AGM types.  I have a Royal Distributing and Canadian Tire.  RD has 2 types avail for my year/Model a battery YTX16-BS CRANK $75, and BATTERY YTX20CH-BS YUASA $140.  Neither of these is the type from the manual FTZ16-BS.
from what I can tell... I think the only difference is the capacity with the $75 unit rated at 14 AH/10HR and the $140 unit rated at 18 AH/10HR ... which is the rating in the manual for the FTZ16-BS.  How much does this make a difference for nearly x2 the cost?
And about the models/type numbers.... what is important to know ... they all end in "-BS" but are the other details relevant or just manufacturer naming?
