2008 Suzuki King Quad - Shutdown After 10 Mins

Good evening,

I'm hoping someone here can help me.... I've had my quad to 5 different shops and no one seems to be able to fix it. :realmad: The problem I'm having with my 750 King Quad is that it will run for about 10 minutes and then shut off. If you let it sit for a while, it will start back up, but will then do the same thing. I am at a loss. I had one place tell me I needed a new CDI for about 600 dollars and yet another tell me I needed the engine redone...... my quad only has 600 miles on it. Anyone else heard of this problem, or know what might be causing it? :aargh:

My Trailblazer used to do something like that. I would start it up and it would run fine, but as soon as it got warmed up it would bog down and stall. I would not be able to get it started again until it cooled off. I checked all the elctrical and everything was fine. Just off the wall while I had the plug out I did a compression test. Turned out to be way low. What was happening was as the motor warmed up and expanded it would lose compression. As it cooled and contracted it got just enough to start and run. If you have a tester it is easy and then you can rule that out.

update...... now Im really confused LOL..... i took my kq to a shop that said they could test the cdi for me..... they tested it, and said nothing was wrong and there were no codes when they put the kq on the computer.... they put another cdi in it to test it, and then it ran fine..... they put the old cdi back in to see if it would still act up, and now it runs fine.... ran the kq for over half an hour and it never shut down..... now i have that shop confused too LOL.

It could be the CDI, but, is the bike getting too hot? Check coolant & water pump. BUT my money is on a bad coil. When it shuts down, touch the coil and see if its over heated. When a bad coil gets too hot, its because the wiring coil inside is shorting across from one winding to another. (Just a note-coils all work the same-almost any 12 volt coil will work if wired right-even a cheap China coil that's set up the same with number of connections.) And, another problem area is the voltage Rectifier. I fixed a 110 atv this week that people had been fighting for a year or so. It would start, run good awhile, then run bad, shut off. The problem, Rectifier getting hot as it was shorting out internally.

Spark wise, these things all work the same. Trigger coil (my name for it) sends a small voltage signal to the CDI, every time that the flywheel turns to the position where a magnet in it passes under the trigger coil.

Then, the CDI sends a larger voltage to the coil, which then sends a very large voltage to the spark plug, which then fires.

With and OHMS meter, you can check out the "TRIGGER" coil.

All of todays engines use this same principal, even cars on the road. There its called a "Crank Position Sensor". This system replaces the old "Contact Points", that we used to work with to clean and reset. They made contact once for every cylinder a motor had.

Hope all this helps.

Hi, I am having issues with my TRX350D fuel pump.  It suddenly stopped running so I have replaced all the fuses and cleaned all the terminals.  I have fitted a new pump, fuel cut-off relay and rectifier.  Still nothing!!  The pump runs when attached to a battery.  The engine will start on the choke and the filter fills with fuel but it will  not rev and dies when the choke is closed. I have power to the relay but nothing at the pump black/white wire when cranking the engine.  Any ideas where to go from here would be very much appreciated!!

My king quad 700 runs rough when cold then won't start some times but not often when it's hot. And occasionally smoke's a lot when it's cold I'm guessing that's rings but I'm worried unless it's causing the other problems

Has anyone else had an issue on older king quads where the oil would leak from the top of the head (due to a failed gasket) and drip onto the hot exhaust? Mine got so hot one time it caught fire. Just wondering if this is a common issue, as I've seen the same thing happen on multiple bikes that were the same model.

My 2014 750 king quad stalls sometimes when I touch or turn the handlebars, the problem has gotten worse,my machine has 475 miles and is only trail ridden,I have a new factory battery and i have 14.2 volts when the quad is running and 13.3 on the battery when not running, also using a multimeter there is no change in volts when turning the bars until it does stall,If I pull the 40 amp power steering fuse it will not stall.......I've been told its the ECU,Hate to buy one if thats not the problem, but its kinda leaning towards that,,,,,need some opinions.
