If you look at my previous posts, you'll see I'm completely new to riding. I don't know much of anything about riding or mechanical issues. I picked up a 2008 Kawasaki KFX 450R and just happened to notice a wire dangling about a week ago. There's no telling how long it's been this way. I noticed it just before I took it out to the motocross track and gambled on the fact the it wasn't important enough to matter. The quad ran fine but I have to figure out what this is for before I take it out again this weekend. I questioned a few friends before coming here and none of them could tell me, definitively, what it is. Below is a link to a short video, showing the wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Wire - YouTube

I'm not sure what a chaincase cover is, but I assume that would be near the chain. This is nowhere near the chain. It's under the seat, towards the back of the engine. I don't mean any offense, but did you watch the video? It's pretty clear about the location of the wire.

On a side note, I initially thought it looked like something that might run the brake light. No dice. The brake light still works fine. With the brakes applied and as running lights with the headlights on.

I just dug in a little further and found where it fits. I took off the seat, dug around with a flashlight, and discovered a spot where that plastic piece slides in, with a place for a bolt to hold it in. I'm not sure how all of these things are falling off my bike (this is the 2nd thing to fall off in just a month) but I'm also not sure what purpose this wire serves. The end that goes in the hole is plastic, yet has wires coming out of it. Unless it's some sort of NFC chip (like smart keys), I don't see what purpose plastic could serve.

You may as well have said "controversial blue banana speaker". No clue what that is. I'm sorry, man. I know you're trying to help and I appreciate it. I looked at your pic, though, and it looks nothing like the piece I'm talking about. As I said, though, I found where it needs to go, I just have to find a way to secure it back in its spot. However, even then, I have no clue what it actually does. You have the air filter casing. You have the big plastic tube that comes off of the air filter casing. Then you have this bundle of wires with a plastic cone on the end which does.... something, apparently. I'd really like to know what it does and how important it is that it's hooked up. Like I said, I have no clue how long I've been without it. Hell, this thing could've been unplugged since I bought the bike 2 months ago. I have no idea.

If it plugs in to the tube in front of the airbox, it is an oxygen sensor. I would think if it was a sensor it wouldn't be running right, you know like spiting and spudding. If you trace the wire back where does it go?

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to help a buddy out with his bike (he's not really on the internet or familiar with these forums) and I'll admit that I am not super familiar with the transmission and clutches in these bikes. I owned a Brute a few years ago, but never had an issue like this that I had to troubleshoot.
So basically my buddy bought a group lot of 650's to build one good bike out of. He got it all put together and has it running but when he pushes on the throttle the clutch doesn't engage till the RPM's are quite high and even when its moving it doesn't really speed up, almost seems like its in "limp mode". He's tried 2 different transmissions so I don't think that's the problem.
Is there any adjustment on the clutch engagement? Anything else I can tell him to look at? Let me know if you need anymore information if you think you can help.

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.

I have a 1990 Bayou 220 that runs pretty well for it's age--needs a new muffler, but sounds tough.    Have had to start with a pull cord since I got it, and recently started troubleshooting the start button.  Finding a lot of information on this issue in the forum, but haven't been able to chase it down yet.  Got a new battery, new starter solenoid, and going to replace the starter relay this week, but not convinced that's going to do the trick, since I can't get the neutral light on when turning the key on.  I can start it by jumping the solenoid, but the 2 black wires to the relay do not activate the starter.  Bad ground or a short somewhere?  Is there a good way to just test the ground?
