Hi guys, I was recently looking at a 2007 Honda 400ex. This quad has been bored out and modded and blah blah blah. I looked at it and noticed the valve timing was off (and resulted in tapping) as well as the brake lever was degreased. I was wondering a couple things about it just for personal preference plus I wanna hear what people have to say.

First off the engine is bored after being ridden for about 1 1/2-2 years of riding (the bike wasn't purchased until 2010) and if for whatever reason the engine dies from something happening would I be able to eventually put a 450 engine in it. I understand these quads don't die (my uncle's '99 is still hauling as*) but I intend to race again eventually and wanted to see posibilities.

Also, like many people, I prefer the older 400ex front plastics that have the double headlights. Are the mounting spots the same? I figured the headlights could be rewired but do the plastics mount the same?

I apologize for noobish questions, I haven't ridden in years and at that time I didn't do much of the work myself. Let me know if there is anything I should be aware of on this model of quad or anything I may not know that I will need to soon! Thanks for reading!

It will take alot of parts to swap out an air cooled motor for a water cooled. I run a 500cc 400ex and it will take on alot of 450s and beat most. If you want a 450 buy that chasis. The plastics will fit with a homemade bracket in front. When you mount em you will see where it goes its real easy

There is a honda aircooled dirtbike motor that is either 600 or 650cc (dont quite remember) that will fit into the 400ex chasis with a slight amount of modification. That is my next project. I will let you know which dirtbike it is when i find it

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

Have you ever been on the trail and your tire valve goes bad. No way to break down the wheel and replace it. A lot of you probably know about this already i had heard of it but never used one. Just punch out the old one insert and tighten down the nut

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks
