    A Jewish 400ex cylinder head?

    The title is for attention. I’m prepping my cylinder head off of an unknown year 400ex to install on my quad. And I’m examining it and there’s literally a Jewish start( Star of David) protruding from the metal on the camshaft side of the head. It’s not imprinted or etched/ engraved. It’s coming out of the metal. DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ON WHY ITS THERE??? I’ve attached a picture

  6. I have a 2014 Honda trx400xe. I have had rear brake issues since the day I picked the quad up from the dealer. I had the issues straightened out, and my brakes worked great. The pedal then stopped moving. I have everything off the pedal and the bolt out of the center and it will not move. I have used plenty of penetrating oils and things like it to try and help free it up. Nothing has worked. I am going riding this weekend and need this to be working properly. Any help would be great!
  7. So after my 400ex pep up (High comp piston, stage 2 hot cam, and some others), There was a malfunction with the rocker arm jam-nut; guess it wasn't torqued to spec. The rocker arm nut caused the lash to become too out of clearance and I bent a valve on a test rip high in the rpm range. There was no damage to the piston but only that valve, a couple dents in the head, and a completely destroyed valve guide. So I decided to take it upon myself (after watching kenoconnors race porting instructions and reading up on this subject) to port my cylinder head significantly. I had the head decked, cylinder honed and smoothed/polished the dome/exhaust port (intake wasn't polished but dimpled slightly to ensure fuel atomization). So after porting, decking the head, I had all valves and guides replaced/reamed, 5 angle valve job, and recut seats, then I installed xr400 gaskets (for higher compression), carb jets; 42 pilot, 175 or 6 main not sure, dynojet needle, k and n filter with no lid, enlarging of header ports and big gun eco slip on exhaust for a 450r, trx 250r coil (adds 1000+ rpm to limiter), 11:1 85mm piston, stg 2 hc with springs and retainers replaced, and polished rocker arms. I then replaced both sprockets one down in front and stock in rear, o ring chain, and 18in tires. There is a larger list of mods but these were the only ones affecting acceleration/performance. On the dyno, this quad put down 42rwhp and was estimated at 46 to the flywheel. Once again this was 42 to the wheel on the stock bore/carb size/header. All this was done at 16 yrs old. You may not be able to see it in the picture but peak whp was 42 on a mustang dyno.
  8. Hi guys I'm new to the forums and I need some help to make a decision. I recently started riding quads a few months ago and have been riding a Yamaha blaster. I'm now deciding of getting a raptor 350, Honda 400ex, trx450, or yfz 450. At first I looked into the 350 but I wanted more power. Recently I looked into the yfz and read it has a smoother ride and something about adjusting the cylinders? Any information on what I should get, pros? Cons? Would all be extremely helpful.

  10. Just picked this up over the weekend; 2001 400ex starts and runs great with fairly new rubber, nerf bars, aftermarket subframe (needs a grab bar), aftermarket bearing carrier & LEX MXe exhaust. Needs bushings and bearings front and rear. Oh yeah and it's got alum wheels too. It may be leaking at the bottom of the cylinder on the carb side (cleaned it all off and ran it/road it for an hour or so but didnt see any sign of oil or leaking and needs the chain replaced. picked it up for $1200 If I take the cylinder off to replace the gaskets, should i do anything else while Im in there?
  11. I have a 07 trx 400ex. I had issues with the shifting. It would shift up to 2nd then hit a roof and go no higher. I took it apart and split the case. The shift drum works fine when shifting by hand or with pliers. But when you use the gearshift plate and shifter it will not move. Any ideas?

    400ex jetting

    i have an 06 400ex, just put on an hmf slip on exhaust, uni air filter with the airbox lid on, new spark plug, 42 pilot jet, and i started with a 160 main and when i checked the plug it looked a little dark so i switched to a 155 main. both jets ran perfectly fine. should i adjust the a/f screw and see what happens?

    400ex problems

    i have a 2002 honda 400ex, i rebuilt the top end and had issues for weeks not realizing that i had lost the decompression spring and plunger. i finally got new parts and got it back together. it ran great... i took it out for a good solid run rather than just running it in the garage, i made it a good half an hour or so before there was a loud almost knocking noise then it suddenly died, after 15 minutes or so it started right up with no knocking or anything so i thought we would work our way back toward camp, after a few minutes it did the same thing, i might have made it a mile, after it cooled down i got it to start again and then i made it back to the truck... after getting it home i tried starting it and it cranks over and sounds like it wants to start but wont kick over, i re lashed the valves, double checked the timing, checked for fuel and spark... i got it to start once but it just did that same knocking noise while idling and i was afraid to rev it or anything then it died after a minute and i cant get it to start again.

    2002 Honda 400ex - Modifications

    I have a 02 400ex with stage two hot cams, port and polished head, 11:1 Wiesco high compression piston, open air box with k&n filter and i run it with 110 race fuel. Jetted to run with all these mods. Is there anything else i could do that would increase the performance of the bike without going big bore? I mostly do trail riding and some track riding and the dunes when i get the chance.
  17. first things first i gotta say what up to everyone on here and to all you im a newbie on here so if this topic has been coverd my bad. im a first time owner of atvs. i just bought a 400ex. its got a bigbore kit lots of aftermarket mods to engine like cam etc. so i got a good deal i guess cause i bought it broke. this how it was explained to me , less then six hour s ride time on mods . guy goes out on pavement with new razr tires on the rear throws the coals to her in second gear goes to grab for third while the front end comes up and he said it went BANG all the sudden there is no drive from trans, or front sproket /output shaft. anyone ever here of this before? any help would be greatly appreciated .
  18. Hey, i have a 2005 400ex that doesn't seem to want to start besides jump starting it. The starter on it is almost brand new and the cylinoid is as well. the starter gear isn't missing any teeth, the bike runs fine after pushing and jump starting it. when i hooked up my booster cables (due to battery being junk), the starter just wind over like it was missing. I am a part time mechanic but this is something new to me, i dont want to dig deeper into the side of the motor to try and find the problem and mess something up and be deeper in the whole. Any feed back will be greatly appreciated as im pulling the bike from the track to tear down and re-do everything on the bike anyways (winter maintenance) Thanks!
