My son's trying to get a 2003 Prairie 360 running. Over a year ago, he'd rebuilt the carburetor using a SHINDY 03-112 rebuild kit from JT Cycle & ATV, and it was working fine; however, when it wouldn't run recently, he took the carb apart and the jet needle was rusted in place. He cleaned that up as good as possible and replaced the jet needle with the old one that wasn't rusty. Now, he can only get it to start about 1 out of 5 tries, and when it does start, it won't run unless the choke's on. The spark plug's good and is sparking. It has compression. Any ideas on what he should try next or look into?

I recently picked up a '97 Prairie 400 4x4 that didn't run. I didn't get much information from the previous owner except that it was running a couple of weeks ago, then started losing power. After that, it just wouldn't do anything... no crank, no start. The electric start didn't do anything and the pull start seemed locked up. When I got it, it had no fluids whatsoever—no oil, no coolant, nothing. I figured the engine was seized. I took the pull start recoil off and tried turning it with a wrench but it didn't move. I took out the spark plug and put some lubricant in the spark plug hole. After a while, I was able to get it moving and it turns now but isn't super easy to turn. I put oil and coolant hoping it would fire up but still nothing. I took out the starter and tested it and it worked perfectly. I tested the starter solenoid and it clicked so I assumed it is working. The battery is good and holding a charge. I also put in a new spark plug as the old one was somewhat corroded but didn't look that bad. After I tested the starter, I put it back in and ran some power directly to the starter. It started cranking the first time I gave it power but didn't do anything after that one time.
Any ideas of what I should do next would be greatly appreciated. Always wanted a quad so I really want to make this work but not sure if it is do=able.

Was riding my prairie 400 the other day started to miss out and then just died no spark I pulled the seat off. The battery was swelled up. I replaced the battery would not start no spark pull the control unit and there was a round quarter inch hole broken out of the Gel coating on the back. I figured it was an internal issue and ordered a new module still no spark, replace spark plugs and coil still no spark. I’ve checked all the wiring and cannot find any issues. I am not that tech savvy and really need some help. Anyone have any ideas? thank you.

'Gidday.  An issue I can't find discussed already - my Bear Tracker selects into 1st gear fine. Selects other forward gears fine too but all above 1st gear are slipping. Can select reverse but nothing engages/happens.
Any ideas what I might be dealing with?
      Cheers,  Jim.

Hi all - I recently had a shop fix this quad and it hasn't been right since. The jug was resealed as it was leaking, the rings were replaced, and the valve stem seals replaced. Shop said the cylinder walls were great so nothing was done there. The motor still smokes, heavily on startup and all but quits once warmed up. Enough that I can live with it if I can fix what I came to ask about. I mentioned this work because since I've gotten it back it seems like it has power but tops out at a much slower speed than before. It's old so I don't have a speedo but I pulled out my phone at it tops out at 25 mph. I know before the work, I was getting up to 45+ mph... It's so bad, my 10 year old daughter is pulling away and straight leaving me in the dust with her governed Polaris 90.
Given the work done, what are some thing I could be the cause of such a drastic difference? I immediately thought timing but the marks appear to match up with a youtube video I found... no idea if it's correct though. It sat in another shop for 2 months and they gave me an $800 quote just for the starter... it pull starts fine.
FYI: I would take it back to the original shop to figure out but I had some issues that make them a no-go for me.
