Hello fellow riders. new to this. I have a 2002 Honda 400ex. Just picked up. It will not start. Owner said it was running a few days ago.(LOL). Quad was all together when picked up. spits and sputters and back fires.

This is what I have done.

#1-checked fuel--OK-Spayed starting fluid--no start

#2-check spark--OK

#3-check compression-100-110psi

#4-Pulled valve cover off and check timing. Timing good. top dead and cam at two lines even with head.

#5-doubled checked timing again-OK

#6-6 of 8 bolts holding valve cover stripped.Don't know if this affects anything.

#7-decompression seems to be working-only rotates one direction. Manual dosen't seem to say much on it works.

Any advise would greatly help

Thanks

i would take the carb off and give it a really good cleaning, check the needle and seat at the float and make sure needle has a nice point ... i would remove as much as i could with the inards and clean thoroughly using a stripped twist tie to get everything cleared out ... lots of spray carb clean and if you have a compressor to blow it all out, all the better ...

Thanks for the response

I cleaned the carb pretty good. I forgot to mention that I pulled the quad behind the truck and still no start. I'm a pretty good tech but damn this thing has got me stuck.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

I am new to this site. I have a 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport I think. Is there a difference between quadsport and quadrunner?

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I Was Riding By Myself. I was going through a Mud HOLE Either there was a log or a rock, or A Dip but just as I was almost through it, Machine, Rolled over on my right side, as soon as I contacted the ground, I Heard A SNAP! I got up, flipped the Quad back over. I had the wind knocked out of me.
