Hello;

new here. I have not road for a very long time. I just purchased a 1987 honda 250sx and have been enjoying putting around on it. I have only owned it for a short time.

It seems to run good. it starts easy enough even though the choke does not work. takes about 4 or 5 kicks cold. then it goes right to a soft idol.

but I have noticed 2 problems.

When I have been riding and I stop and put it in neutral the rpm goes up pretty high. A little to high to pop it back into gear.

and if I take of in 1st without using the L1 it will bog down if I try to punch it. is this because you should always take off stating in the short L1 gear

or could there be any other problem.

I dont notice any smoke at all and it idols pretty soft so I didnt think the compression was low.

i would try cleaning the carb and putting a rebuild kit in or use some seaform in a few heavier than normal doses and see if it clears, you may have to adjust afterwards ... check to see if the throttle cable might be pulled or not in the proper location along the tank ...

is there an adjustable low jet on this thing?

Now that i think of it it kinda acts like my chainsaw does when the low jet is closed a little to much.

      Hey guys and gals. I've been working on my friends 2007 big bear IRS. Unfortunately after 3 different people got their hands on it and only made things worse every time.  After months of finding just crazy problems everywhere. I'm finally at the point we're its almost 100% !!! But I'm getting a short somewhere between the 4xW switch I believe. I managed to by searching the internet like a  fiend, got my hands on an official Yamaha wire harness for the year and make. But I don't have the numbered component list and to be honest. After hours of going through and making everything so it's  easy to reference. If anyone has a picture of the referenced components. I would be forever in your debt. I've spent hours marking up the blown up diagram so it will be easy, for any possible future repairs. Please and thank you. Here's a picture of what i have so far.  Unsealed it in plastic so oil and crap won't spill or get smudged. This damn things worth it's weight in gold.              Thanks Jeff                2007 Yamaha big bear 400 IRS.       YFM40FBW

      on my honda trx 500 we have no power to the ignition switch for starting or ignition
      we have lights and horn working
      all fuses are fine
      have traced through the harness and cant find any broken wires or bad connections
      from what we have gathered so far the pgm fi unit is not sending any power to the fuel pump relay to power everything up.
      if we put power direct to the ignition switch plug then everything works but wth the key in the off position.
      does this sound like a faulty pgm fi unit?

      Hey everyone, I just picked up a 91 trx350 4x4 with a blown top end. I don't know what happened to the poor thing but the cam journals that were round are oval shaped now. I also bought a running engine from a 92 trx350 4x4 to swap into the 91. Is there anything in particular I should be checking while the engine is out and I have good access to it and the frame?
