  1. Thanks members for the vote of confidence I am really overwhelmed right now . I am an older guy I thought I could fix anything until I saw this mess of wires. I mostly work on 60s Jap bikes they are easy battery ,spark gas compression. This is my first 4 wheeler and. I also have a Suzuki Eiger that I got right after that on a trade trans locked on it. Thanks again !
  2. If the plastics are really bad sanding with primer and paint is the only option as Catman said. I paint plastics as a last resort. If its heavily oxidized i scrape all the oxidation off lightly with a razor blade at 90 degree angle to the plastic, I say lightly you don't want to gouge the plastic. Then I go over it with 000 steel wool, next wet sand with 220 until you get a uniform smooth finish. Continue wet sanding with finer grit as you go 400, 600, 800, 1000 , 1500 I usually don't go higher than that. Then use a good plastic polish. Its not as good as new but its a good 5 footer.
  3. I just recently acquired a 2004 Suzuki Eiger it will crank and run, but the wheels are locked, I took the drive shaft loose and the wheels will now roll so I know its not the rear end or brakes.. The neutral light is on and when I shift gears neutral light goes off but then comes back on . The reverse high and low shifter was stuck but I got it freed up but doesn't seem to do anything and does not move freely, never had one of these, but I would think that there should be a click when it locks in gear this just moves no clicks.. The foot shifter feels like its working or maybe I should say not stuck, but never goes in gear. I can see that the left side cover has been taken off at some point and it has a new shift linkage. Im suspecting that something isn't right in there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I am new to 4 wheelers but I just picked up a 2000 Big Bear YFM400FWN cheap. He said it had wiring issues don't know what the problem was before he kept saying it needed a new wiring harness. Well it does now the complete harness was out of the bike. I do have the old harness but really don't know where to start. My thoughts were start with a new harness but so far has been unobtainable. Any of you guys know where to start. Im ready to go back to the basics fire, gas and compression to get it running to see if engine and tranny is good, before sinking a lot of money into electronics, anyone have any ideas
  5. If you have not done anything erratic to the engine lately it should not be out of time, the CDI box controls advance and retard timing to some degree I would do a simple OHM reading check to make sure its in spec. that should be listed in the repair manual.
  6. I would check to see if it still has spark and go from there.
  7. I just recently bought my first quad. Used and in pretty bad shape ,hoping for some expert repair advice. Thanks!
