Sweet Tecate 4 250 Senator! I used to have the same Quad, I miss it like crazy.
Congratulations Senator

Does this one count? LOL
Ah heck, I think I may just give this one a go.
The one thing that I would like to see added to this contest is a "bonus feature"! Let's say 10 points for anyone who posts a "How-To" with pictures.

If that A-arm let go on ya it could have sucked in a big way. Nice find, I think i'm going out to inspect mine before my next ride.

I'm in! Who else is going?
It will be my first time at the Toronto show because it's a 4 hour drive for me. I'm wondering if they will be selling parts like winches and riding gear.

Hey guys
I've been looking around for skid plates for my machine and I'm having some trouble finding ones that will fit my bike. I have a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO and everyone seems to sell everthing but 2005. I've found one's to fit 2000-2004 and 2006-2011 but not 05's. Just strange!!!!!
I'm guessing that there are almost no changes between 05 and 06 models.
So do I take a chance and order 06's and hope they fit?
If anyone here has an 05 with skids, let me know what you have and where you got them from please!
Thanks

Happy Afternoon all!

Wouldn't today be a nice day for a ride.
Morning all.

Mine was intermitent also, it was the front bearing that failed allowing dirty water to get in and destroy the brushes. It's much easier just to replace the entire motor and rebuild the old one for a spare.

Da Ta Daaa!!!Morning all :coffee:

Rich: What was the part # for the fan motor from The Fan Man, I talked to them yesterday and they wanted the part #, was it SPAL 30100411???
Thanks Trev
Hey Trev
I did talk to Jack III at the Fan Man for ya and this is what you need...
The part # on the new fan is...
VA09-AP12/C-54A
Spal part # 30100411
All I did was swap the new motor that comes with the new fan into the original Polaris fan housing. You'll have to solder on the end plug of the original bad motor onto the new motor from Spal.
Spec's
Puller
Total draw 9 Amps
950 CFM

Hey Guys
I just wanted to let all you Polaris Sportsman 500 HO owners know what I came across today while working on my bike.
I decided to pull the bike out today to start getting it ready for my trip up north next week. When I started it up I noticed the infamous Polaris Sportsman ticking that comes from the front right of the engine. From what I read on all the different forums is that the ticking is from the water/oil pump. I also read that this sound is normal on most SP500 HO's and so I thought I would have to live with the sound. But what I did notice when I started the bike was the noise was a bit louder than I last remembered it to be.
So I decided to changed the oil and I followed the procedure in the manual right to the letter! I used a K&N oil filter and 2 liters of Amsoil 0W40 4 stroke synthetic. When I was done changing the the oil I pinched off the vent line to the top of the oil tank to prime the oil pump and started the bike. I held the vent pinched for around 15 seconds and released it untill I heard the air release sound. Now the pump is primed and the oil is flowing like it supposed to be but the infamous ticking is still there but a little quieter. This difference in sound had got me thinking about what could be causing the noise and what I came up with is a air pocket that is trapped in the oil pump.
You may think that sounds a little far fetched for air to be trapped in the oil pump, but what I did next seems to have solved my ticking noise. I started the bike and I pinched the oil return line that comes from the pump and goes to the tank. I only pinched it off with a pair of needle nose pliers for a few seconds at a time. Each time I pinched the hose the tone of the engine would change and sound as if it was loading up. I also noticed the hose expanding slightly from the oil pressure, when this happened I would release the hose and you could hear the oil rushing back into the tank. After doing this about 5 times my ticking was 95% quiter if not completly gone.
Now I don't know if this will work on everyones bike but it seemed to work on my bike and I now love the sound of my bike, it sounds like new again!
P.S. If anything changes on my trip next week I will post back my findings.
I hope this helps!

She's all good now boys, all it needed was a few hours of riding to seal the leak. So all is good but now I have another problem with the front diff. I plan on making another thread about this new problem.
Thanks for all the help!

Morning all, not Friday yet but oh so close that you can just smell it! Smells like MUD and BUD to me!
-
Good to hear you got it solved. No lube on Polaris clutches, if they are sticking its because there dirty or worn out and will be in need of a rebuild.
-
Check your clutches! Sounds like there sticking. I had the same problem with my bike. Dry steep hill in high gear the bike would cough and sputter but if I put it in low gear there was no problem. If the clutches are not shifting properly it would be like trying to clime a hill in third gear of stick shift car. The bikes power will die off, so you give it more throttle to compensate for the loss and you will then have a bit of black smoke come out the tailpipe and a strong smell of gas from the rich mixture. This will lead you to belive it's a fuel or carb issue when infact it's a clutch issue.
