  1. What I seen must have been struts with the Elka upgrade but they were being listed as Elka struts & also a KVF 700 for sale and it was listed with having Elka struts & Elka rear shock. Even if an Elka strut upgrade is done it still don't make them Elka struts. Thanks for the info about that. I seen them seen the price and never looked at them again. I just took them for what the seller was saying they were. I guess thats away for someone to get mega bucks from the unknowing buyers. I still like the BF750 better. I got a good deal on my Prairie I paid 1,600 for it and I have put a lot of miles on it. I had to replace the frame and gave 300 for an 03 Prairie 650 used the front diff and frame kept a few extra parts around and sold the left overs for 250. And the guy I bought the 03 from said he had a Dynatek F.S cdi he couldn't find the cdi when I bought the quad but said when he finds it he will give me a call so I got the call got the box but then found out it want fit my 02 so I have it listed on craigs list now.

  2. I like my prairie but the Elka's alone cost more than what I gave for my quad. My quad is the 02 Prairie 650 it's a fun quad but a workout as well with the steering. I'm sure the Elka's would help improve the handling but they cost more or as much for what most people pay for the older Prairies & Twin peaks. I'm talking about the Elka struts & rear shock not just replacement springs. I would have to have money to waste too put that much into my Prairie. I've seen some Prairies still selling for 3000bucks so between that cost and what it would cost to do the performance upgrades listed above I think I would just buy a newer quad such as a BF750 and be done. That way your not faced with the short commings of the front strut suspension. Then apply some of the listed upgrades to the bf750 Dynatek cdi, pipe & performance filter.

  3. I have never seen to much aftermarket parts on ebay other than cvt belts, exhuast etc. racks & bumpers not too much I did come across a heavy duty bumper with a winch mount built into the bumper may have been made by warn. Rack bags are handy and don't add much weight and a winch comes in handy.

  4. I think God I never wanted a boat I did think about a jet ski 1 time. The old prairie has been pretty good to me. Other than having to replace the frame & I let a friend ride it he came back and the radator was leaking who knows what happened there. Now it's just normal stuff battery, brakes & tires I think I have run these tires for about 3 yrs. thats not bad. I could get by with just 2 rear tires but I want to put radial tires on it I think it will handle better.

  5. Quadnut thats what trees are for quick stops lol! I understand what your saying but with our budget right now I can't afford the 30 something dollar pads and I don't want to damage the rotors. The cheap pads shoud pervent that for now just so my quad can be rode and it has great working rear brakes. Other wise it will be another month before I get paid and thats a month of no riding.

  6. Thanks crazykiwi I thought that would be 1 of the issues with the cheaper pads I'm just looking for something to get me by for a few months. Were supposed to have an income change thats about a month over due now! I hope in a few months from now we will get it then I can put better pads on the old kawa! & add a second quad.

  7. Has anyone used the Caltric brand or Kevlar brake pads sold on ebay? The price is 12.00 for a set and the dealer wants 37.00 for a set of front pads for my prairie. I do know sometimes you get what you pay for but heck 37 more than what the pads cost for my truck!

  8. Back when I won the most comments contest I used a gift card to buy a No-Toil filter. Today I took it out to clean the filter and it was comming lose at the seam so I sent a message to No-Toil to see if I could use foam safe glue to glue it back togather since I can't find my receipt. They emailed me back right away and said their not sure if the glue would work and just give them my address and atv info and they will send me a new filter. I just wanted to share how great No-toils customer service was to me.

  9. We do have a local dealer Cycle Works they carry Kawasaki, Yamaha & Polaris we did have an Arctic cat dealer but I think their more of a farm, tractor & equipment dealer and the last time I went by it I didn't see the quads & I think the Arctic cat sign was no longer there. Then about 45 mins. away we have a larger dealership that has more to choose from. I know I can't buy a brand new quad so I'm trying to stay out of the dealerships. My wife would beat the I want a new quad! out of me she said about getting a new one till she found out it takes about 10,000 bucks for one.

  10. Thanks guys .Wylde1 I know you have beat on your quad!!!! My body can't take the beating from my Prairie anymore and I keep reading & watching video reviews on how smooth the Polaris rides. I think with eps & a smoother riding quad I could still keep riding and enjoy it. Right now I enjoy it while I'm riding but after I hurt to bad. The doc said I need surgery a quad with eps & irs will be cheaper and way more fun. The other thing for me is I love the power my Prairie has and I will be giving that up with the 550. The Prairie will still be in the garage my daughter rides it now.

  11. I'm looking to get another quad. I found about 3 Ploaris quads I'm looking at. On some of the reviwes I watched on you tube and read. Some people love'em & some hate'em. The biggest statement is it's a hit or mis with Polaris. Heres what I'm looking at 2 2011 Sportsman 550's w/eps & an 06 or 08 outlaw 525 irs sport quad. I rather hear from people who own or have owned a Polaris to hear your thoughts on quality and what to watchout for. The review that was pretty bad was a 2012 550 the eps quit two times and started working and has been ok. Then the active descent control quit on both quads they were doing a long term test. I'm on the fence about looking at the Polairs quads. Please help.

  12. I found the sportsman 550 for sale for around 5,000.00 with very low hours. I did some research and one of the reviews the gas guage quit working and then started working again with no more problems and then the active descent control & engine braking system quit working. This was on both quads they did a long term test on the 550 & 850 both around a 100 miles quit working. If any of you have one of the 550's or know about them could you let me know if you or someone you know has had any problems and if you or them like the quad and it's performance.

  13. I checked out a polaris sportsman 550 2011 model with eps I don't like the brake setup and some reviews I seen wasn't too good they did a long term test on the 550 & 850 and both atv's had the same problems between 100 to 200 miles on the quads the ebs I think is what they called it (electronic brake system) to controll down hill speeds and in the test the system quit working on both quads. So now I'm not sure about the polaris quads. Now I'm back to looking at Kawasaki, Yamaha & Honda I like the quads with EPS & IRS with my back, neck & arm problems it would be easier on me. I had the chance to ride a 2013 grizzly 700 with EPS & IRS and it made a big difference!!! I will just have to see what I can find in my budget I don't know if I will be able too find a BF 750 or Grizzly 700 in my price range with eps so I might have to test ride the Polaris and see if I would be ok giving up horse power for comfort and hope it would be a reliable quad.

  14. Heres one for all you poor folks like me. My battery got to where it wouldn't take a charge or start my quad. I read a blog on using Alum from McCormick for pickling. Alum & distilled water is all it takes besides cleaning out the old acid with baking soda and water. I can't belive it worked but it did. It took adding a little more alum till I got the mix right so far I've made about seven starts.
