  1. Sometimes needles wear from vibrations. You can see worn spots on this one. The needle jet would also be worn.
  2. They are worth restoring should you take a notion to. I always say it's the most fun you'll ever have at 1 mph lol Super low 1st and 2nd are lower than 1st gear low. I think 3rd gear SL is the same as 1st gear low. It will pull my truck with the hubs locked in 4x4 and truck manual transmission in 2nd. It turns the truck engine over. It won't pull it in 1st gear though. It just digs 4 holes. Super low is really nice. It's fun putting through the woods off the trail, crawling over logs real slow and not worrying about jostling stuff off the racks. It's handy for backing a loaded trailer real slow. And I can shift ranges on the fly. So from 2nd SL I just shift into low and it feels pretty natural. From there I can either shift into 3rd or shift into high if I don't want to use my foot. The only thing I wish it had is reverse from any gear like the yamaha warrior. Too often I'm in 3rd or 4th SL and it's a long way to find neutral to engage reverse. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. If someone came over with a Can-am 1000 wanting to trade I'd send them away. I could always save up to buy a can-am but I don't want to go through all the work again to build another king.
  3. No problem Gw. The biggest difference between them is the cat had dual rear a-arms and a gravity fed tank, but higher center of gravity. I'm not sure but I think the cat had real cv joints too instead of u-joints in a boot. Someone on youtube made a King Cat which is a King with the Cat's a-arms, but I couldn't find the video. Here's this though:
  4. It's a suzuki engine that arctic cat used. The king engine is the same as the 1985 230 quadsport with some refinements.
  5. I can hit 11,000 rpm because I have a super light Arias piston that I shaved down and it has a short wrist pin unlike the Wiseco boat anchor pistons. And I have ovate valve springs that are twice stiffer than the dual springs so I don't get any valve float. And of course the sport cam. The original 230 had a 16mm wrist pin and I have pics from a couple guys whose rod punched a hole in the case after breaking. In 1989 suzuki changed it to 17mm which seems to be plenty strong. That same piston is carried over to the king, but with a longer rod which helps offset the deflection caused by a longer stroke. It has potential to be a real beast.
  6. There is no mechanical advance so it would have to be in the CDI. It's easy to check since he has parts quads and the LT4WD has a higher rev limit anyway. Or at least mine did. Maybe different years are different. Anyway they all should work. There's a piece of metal tacked onto the flywheel you can see in this pic. It's tacked in different locations for different models and years to give different timing. That allows the CDIs to be the same, except the rev limit. Interesting.
  7. Nah most carbs are from bikes parted out. Check the pics and description. Do the due diligence required for any ebay item. Ask questions. If it's set up for the bike it will be close for the quad and much easier to work on. The alternative is to keep beating his head on the wall with that cv carb then have a piece of crap carb in the end anyway.
  8. I agree not to buy an aftermarket carb. Get a used one from a suzuki bike (not atv) from ebay. That's what I did. I wouldn't fiddle with that cv carb another minute. Into the trash it should go.
  9. Maybe the guy ran it out of oil and it ground the cam lobes down. Not likely but maybe the cam chain jumped a tooth or someone put it together wrong. These things are hard to diagnose over the internet. Maybe this or maybe that.
  10. As far as helping you goes I can't do anything until you check the intake valve because everything else depends on a mechanically sound engine. If the valves aren't the problem and the regulator is not the problem then I don't know. I would junk the cv carb and replace with some 28-30mm roundslide from another suzuki bike off ebay. In fact that is exactly what I did. There is nothing else I can do to help.
  11. I used a tree on the other side of the trail to back it down the hill about 20 ft then hooked up a static cable while I reroute the winch cable to another tree to continue backing it down the 200ft hill to the campsite. It's just a house style outdoor receptacle with 2 outlets. One is connected to the battery for charging and the other to the winch controller. I can plug in the rear winch to pull logs or plug in the trailer to dump loads and use the same controller for both. I built one of these https://cadplans.com/collections/diggers
  12. I was talking to KP, not you. Who pooped in your cornflakes? The insinuation that everyone should clean their pumps because mine was corroded was an attack on what was meant to be an olive branch. And I never thought the pump was the problem. That was his idea. Another attack on me. Insinuating that all pumps are bad is yet another attack because I said all regulators are bad. Not that hard to see. He deviated from the topic to me. I feel completely justified in my reaction and am starting to question whether you are actually reading posts.
  13. Mech is right on all things, right? "Ever since that Trump got in, it seemed to me that he was hell bent on taking America down in every way he could.. I'm glad he's out.. he's a threat to your country and the whole world in my opinion.. I hope you all get over the strife he's caused as soon as possible and that he get's thrown out of the country for good.... He's one nasty piece of work as far as I can tell, and with an agenda.." https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/15214-2020-presidential-election-discussion-thread/page/4/#comment-113519 "Trump was inviting the Russians to interfere in the elections.. As a by the by.. Now they are saying his talk is sedition.. That is so far short of what he's been doing ever since he got in that it's a joke.. It's been deliberate treason from start to finish. What's the punishment over there for treason ?" https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/15214-2020-presidential-election-discussion-thread/page/6/#comment-113655 "Trump's bravado and the subsequent loss of opportunity meant your strategies were doomed to failure. It's not that masks do nothing, or that vaccine's don't work, we all know that vaccines are effective and an effective way to prevent epidemics." https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/15388-china-virus/page/8/#comment-117644
  14. You don't see this as insulting? He looks unhinged to me. I guess you'll be voting for Biden then.
  15. It's a amazing a supposed mechanic since 1973 who never tires of bragging doesn't know when or if to adjust valves.
  16. Should I post a topic about it asking the community whether you or Suzuki is right? How else are we to know who is right?
  17. So who is right? Is Suzuki right or are you right? It's a simple question.
  18. Suzuki says to check and ADJUST the valves every 600 miles. Who is right: you or Suzuki?
  19. Now you're arguing about whether or not you're arguing. Arguing about regulator: https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/16439-1990-quadrunner-lt-4wd-wont-idle-compatible-cdi/#comment-120267 Arguing about how to charge lithium batteries: https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/16649-which-brand-of-battery-is-best/page/2/#comment-121547 Arguing about valve lapping: https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/16761-barn-find-97-bayou-220-double-intake-from-exhaust-and-carb-im-stumped/#comment-122251 Arguing about whether carb manufacturers are capable of making a poorly designed carb: https://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/topic/16053-carby-adjusting/page/2/#comment-120034
  20. I don't have to have the last word, but when you say something that's wrong I have to correct it. Just like you did here about me having to have the last word. And this too: I was just pointing out it was you who said you didn't want to sidetrack the thread from the topic yet you keep sidetracking the thread. Mech and I have been fighting for over a year. You weren't here to see it so you don't understand. He argued with me incessantly about regulators a year ago and now he's telling you to turn the lights on to see if it's the regulator. He couldn't accept the fact that all the king quad regulators are faulty and suggested some other tests but could never state exactly what tests. He just wanted to argue rather than admit he learned something. He argued with engineers and battery manufacturers about how to charge lithium batteries. He argued with Suzuki service manuals, John Deere service manuals, and valve seat cutter manufacturers about whether to lap valves. Now he's telling you to not adjust your valves which is direct contradiction to the Suzuki service manual. I posted the pic of the fuel pump in an effort to back Mech in his idea to check the pump in an effort to get along with him, and to give you an idea of what the pump looks like. Then Mech insinuates that everyone should check their pumps because mine was corroded along with a bunch of other insulting comments about me. He sidetracked the thread, but then you attack me over it. That's what got me butthurt. So if you couldn't see that I was trying to help you and then Mech attacked me and then you not only didn't defend me, but you attacked me too, then you can't blame me for not wanting to help you. I just had enough of it and you got caught in the cross fire. I PMed admin about it so we'll see.
  21. Where did I say anyone was wrong? Suzuki says Mech is wrong. IEEE says Mech is wrong. John Deere says Mech is wrong. But I even took Mech's side as an olive branch to look into the fuel pump and he still managed to start a fight over it. From what I can tell you guys deserve each other. I'm trying to leave but you won't stop calling me out. Do you want me to leave or do you want to keep arguing on a thread you said you wanted to keep neat and tidy?
  22. I've been the most informative one here posting pics and videos and advice based on having been where you are now with the same machine. I'm butthurt over the fact that I dispensed good information while mech gets jealous then derails the thread into attacks and then you say you're not taking sides. So if you won't help me then I'm not helping you. And you ridicule me when you can't tell the exhaust from the intake?!? Good luck with Mech.... you deserve each other.
  23. You need to tell suzuki they are wrong Just like you need to tell the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and manufacturers of lithium batteries that they are wrong about how to charge lithium batteries. Just like you need to tell John Deere and cutting edge modern mechanics that lapping valves is perfectly ok. Amazing that the best and brightest engineers are always wrong while some old fart from New Zealand has a monopoly on knowledge. Talk about dangerous advice.... I wouldn't consider anything true unless Mech disagreed. The guy you advised to lap valves is 100% for sure going to have to replace his valves within a year. The guy with a bad regulator you would have had him buying new cdi and random electrical parts if I didn't convince him to try the regulator. Who knows what you'll do to 97. But if he doesn't have enough sense to believe Suzuki over you then he deserves what he gets.
  24. There are already 1000s of threads about this that no one reads. Some I participated in as far back as 2007. Help is everywhere. I have over 5000 posts of help on the longest thread on atv connection. They made a sticky of it https://atvconnection.com/forums/suzuki/ I have no incentive to do this and certainly no incentive to fight with narcissists while mods not do their job of moderating situations to prevent fights. I'll just go ride what I'm sure is the most powerful and modded 300 king quad on the planet while you guys concentrate on on decorum.
  25. Me too but he's so jealous someone may know something that he doesn't he always derails the thread from the topic to attacks. Every single thread I've been on he's claiming he knows it all because he's old. Usually I just leave. The only reason I'm here is a year ago he fought with me about regulators and now he's telling people to turn the lights on to see if the engine runs better. I thought it was hilarious. Should have just giggled and left. But if the flow of the thread is what's important then that's not going to happen unless I leave. Who would have thought a liberal from New Zealand who thinks everyone should wear their masks and get their vaccines would be such a big hit in MAGA land. But I'll leave y'all to him.
