  1. Hi Folks; Has anybody on here installed a winch on a 2003 Magnum 2x4? I am using a Cycle Country adapter plate (only one I could find), but am having a bit of trouble getting it all to fit properly, and am looking for someone that may have done this install and/or may have some pics of the installation. Thanks! Eric
  2. My mother has just developed a fairly serious case of sciatica, which is a condition where you have some serious leg pain as the result of a pinched sciatic nerve. One of the exercises she does in physical therapy is simply the therapist holding onto her foot and pulling away from her hips as she lays on her back on a table. To replicate this exercise at home they have recommended an inversion table (where you turn upside down and hang from your feet), but since she's not too keen on this idea I'm trying to figure out how to replicate this exercise...which is where the idea of a remotely operated winch comes in. I don't really have a wide range of knowledge when it comes to what equipment is out there that can help me accomplish this goal, but I'm not too shabby at designing things and since I just installed a superwinch on my grizz this is the first idea I've come up with. Basically I'm imagining using some kind of winch whose rope would be worked through a pulley system that would end attached to a shoe which Mom would put on, lie down and use the remote switch to gently stretch the leg. - Winch (if an ATV winch) would be powered by a 12v car battery hooked up to a trickle charger - Safety mechanisms would include... - a light switch dimmer inline between the 12v battery and the winch so speed can be adjusted. - possibly using one of those stretchy rubber exercise resistance bands in the line segment to regulate and ease the pulling - a remote power cut off switch paired with the remote 'in/out' switch Honestly I could just go ahead and make this system myself, and I'm fairly sure it would work, but I thought I'd bounce this idea off a mechanically minded community to see if there are any ideas how I could improve on the design. Since I'm only familiar with ATV winches at this point that's what I've imagined using. But if anyone is aware of a 110v based winch that would be more appropriate, that would surely help in simplifying powering the system since it'll be located indoors. Only requirement for the winch would be that it would need both an in and out function operated by a remote switch. And since the winch would only need to pull between 10-20 lbs it wouldn't need to be nearly as beefy as the ATV type. Sorry for the long write up here but I'm certainly glad for your time and open to your opinions and suggestions.
  3. Putting in a SW Terra 35 and I've decided the crimp I'm looking at here isn't something I can reproduce so I need to figure out who to take this wire to get the end put back on after I get it shortened to where I need it. Never having delt with wires this big I have no idea who I could go to just locally to get this done. What kind of (electrical?) business would deal with stuff like this? .
  4. Winch talk

Just got my first ATV, a '11 700 Grizz and planning on doing some trail riding soon. First piece of equipment I'm adding is a winch and I'm needing some suggestions for something that would be good for my kind of riding but comes at a decent price. Usually I try to get quality stuff (Warn) but since I'm needing to conserve denero right now I figure this winch is something that (at least for me) doesn't have to be crazy great/expensive. Although I'd still like to get something that's decent quality and can pull well, in my middle age I hardly think I'll be voluntarily launching into any terrain that has the potential to get me too stuck...thus I doubt I'll be using the winch that often. Anybody have a suggestion for a model that's decent quality for around say $300 bucks? Doesn't have to be built to be used time after time but quality does still count. Thanks
  5. cant find one any wear you guys have any idea s ? only listing I can find goes too 2002
  6. I am looking for a good not to expensive winch for my yamaha 400 grizzley. All I am going to use it for is to raise and lower a snow blade 6-10 inches. I have been looking all over and many seem to feed back out a couple inches after feeding the cable in and I do not need that to happen. Any ideas on a winch out there?
  7. Good day folks, I just got done installing my winch on my Wolvy and thought I would snap a few pics of the install. First thing I did was get all my parts before I even began the project. Since I really disliked the look of the factory bumper color I repainted the bumper and grab bar black. Much to my dismay the paint didn't last very long trail riding and hauling it around so I decided I would get them powder coated. DSC05352 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05351 by binderpilot, on Flickr They turned out awesome and were definately worth the money to get done. Well here are all the pieces I began with: I purchased the Warn winch mount after doing some research and decided this would work the best for my application as I like the fact that it is not only bolted to the bumper but you have to bolt to the frame as well. DSC05344 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05347 by binderpilot, on Flickr It is a very nice kit that comes with all the hardware and easy to understand instructions. I chose to purchase a 3000lb winch made by Champion, model #1361. I know it is not a top quality winch such as Warn however for my needs this would be sufficient. I really loved the price, $120 from Costco. It came with everything I would need as well as a wireless controller that will come in handy for spooling in the winch cable. DSC05357 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05358 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05359 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05360 by binderpilot, on Flickr The solenoid that came with the winch is heavy duty and marked for easy trouble free installation. DSC05361 by binderpilot, on Flickr I began by following the instructions with the mount and I bolted the winch to the mounting plate. I originally mounted the winch on the mounting plate that came with the winch however when I test fit it on my bumper there wasn't enough clearance. I had to remove that plate and mount the winch directly to the Warn mounting bracket. I really wanted to have the winch lead rollers closer to the winch however it wasn't going to work with this application. DSC05362 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then reinstalled the bumper to the machine. Here is a shot to show you how the U clamps hold it in place. DSC05374 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then ran the 2 power wires from the Winch along the frame and chose to mount the solenoid in the dry area under the seat. DSC05366 by binderpilot, on Flickr With the easy color coating of the connections that Champion provided it was a snap to do the instal. I then mounted the rocker switch on the handlebars. This was another reason I chose this winch, I love the compact no frills design of the rocker switch. It is almost an identical match to the Warn rocker switch. DSC05367 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then had to figure out where I could mount the antenna for the wireless fob. Initially I would have liked to mount it on the airdam in front of the radiator right behind the grille. Unfortunately the wire harness that came with it was too short to reach to where I mounted the solenoid so I decided I would mount it on the left side of the air box by using some zip ties as to not drill any holes. DSC05365 by binderpilot, on Flickr I really love my synthetic cable I put on my RZR so I decided this would be the perfect time to install one on this winch as it hasn't been marred by any cable. Here is a shot with the rope as well as the wireless Fob. DSC05368 by binderpilot, on Flickr This particular rope comes with a brass end on it that I was able to bolt right onto the drum via a bolt that looks to be specifically for something along this line. DSC05370 by binderpilot, on Flickr I then proceeded to spool the rope. It sure was handy having the fob for this task as I am not sure how I could have gotten it on properly by using only the handlebar control. DSC05371 by binderpilot, on Flickr (Tip of the day) ensure nylon sleeve is at end of rope connected to drum. DSC05363 by binderpilot, on Flickr I spooled up very nicely and I was super happy with the end result. DSC05373 by binderpilot, on Flickr Upon looking at it some more I decided that a winch lead saver would be kind of nice to have on this. I decided I would make my own and put a "Canadian" spin on it. DSC05375 by binderpilot, on Flickr That's right, I decided to use a hockey puck that the kids left laying on the floor. The price was right and I think it should serve the purpose perfectly. I drilled a 7/16" hole in the center of it then cut it with a hacksaw to slide it over the cable. Had I thought of this before installing everything I would have not had to make that cut I could have just thread the rope through it. If I every have this rope off I will maybe make a new one without a cut? Only time will tell if this is a good idea or not? DSC05376 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05377 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05378 by binderpilot, on Flickr DSC05382 by binderpilot, on Flickr So there you go if you have any questions on this please feel free to ask. I am really excited to try this out and especially to try my "DIY" home built winch lead absorber.
  8. ok guys im new here so iv a y 2010 Artic Cat 300 2x4 for almost 4 years now and over the weekend I went out and bought me a 3000lb super winch and I can not find a place to put the mount so mount the winch so I was wondering if anybody had the same 4wheeler and put a winch on it and could give me pics of how I could do
  9. :huh:I left my Cat sit for several months while I visited the "States" for summer in WI. Battery had been removed. When I got back here to Panama and on the road again, I occasioned to find that the winch was non-responsive. Now, we have quite a bit of humidity here during the rainy season (it was doubly covered with tarps) and I'm guessing corrosion of contacts or wires. I've cleaned all the connections, except the rocker switch and solenoid are sealed. No luck. Shouldn't I be able to run 12v directly to either the large diameter blue or yellow wire on the winch and see if the winch itself works? I got spark, but no function. 2nd question: I have an 8 post solenoid and I know the part # is 0409-066 and it is a Warn winch made for Arctic cat, but, I cannot find a model number on the winch so I can look up a wiring diagram. Can anyone possibly tell me which model winch I likely have? 2005 500LE automatic Arctic Cat. Or which winches use the 8 post solenoid? I have not been able to find any diagram of Warn winches that use an 8 post solenoid (lots of winch diagrams are available).
  10. Hello all, new to this forum. I just picked up a 2001 Quadrunner 4X4 and am wanting to add a winch. I am having a problem finding a mount, I have seen a few universal mounts and am wondering if anyone knows of a mount that will work or have had any luck using the universal mounts.
  11. tried to winch my bike out yesterday and bike stalled, then winch stopped working. took it home and when i try to use winch there is a big clunking sound behind battery. took winch off and tried again and same noise. not sure what , why and exactly where its coming from to even try and repair or replace. any ideas????
  12. I want to install a winch ( super winch) in front of a 1996 magnum 425 4X4. Not tomutch room! any idiea? Pictures? Thanks Gignac02
  13. I recently picked up a 99 Big bear 350 2x4 and was going to add a winch. It looks as though I'll need to custom make something to mount on frame. I bought the Badlands 2000 and winch plate, but will still need some some sort of mod to get it to work in the front. Anyone have any pics of a similar model big bear with a front winch mount to give me more ideas? Anyone have welding skills and live close to Frisco ,TX and want to come by and help out? Thanks,
  14. So I have this old winch mounted on my Big Bear, its got 2 wires coming out of it, best I can figure out 1 ground and 1 power which would then go to a relay (I cant find a free spool lever/button/clip). Anyone have any ideas on how I can test it in both directions (reversing the polarity which would normaly be done at the relay so it will spin the opposite way) or at least one direction. Im hesitant to spend $50-60 on eBay for a relay and switch just to test it out and see if it works, and then have a big headache trying to return a open used electrical item. Thanks
  15. Does anyone know where to get a winch mount for a 1995 Kodiak 400? I can't seem to find one anywhere on the internet.
  16. Warn Winch Schematic

I have a 93 Big Bear 350 with a Warn winch (200lb) with rotary control. I was wondering if anyone has a wiring schematic for it. Thanx

  18. winch and plow stuck

I am having a great winter with my new Sportsman 550 and plow. Today I plowed as usual and when I was just about finished, the plow would not go down and the winch is stuck. It wont budge. I cant remove the plow cause there is no slack. Any ideas on how to get things going again? The winch motor runs but I dont want to fool around with it since I dont want to do more harm than good. Thanks, folks.
  19. My name is Thomas and I am new to this website. I have a Sportsman 400 and just had a new winch installed on it. Battery seemed weak after installing the winch. Replaced battery but will not start at all now. Everything is hooked up right and I had the winch installed professionaly. Do I need to upgrade to a stronger battery ? Or take it back to the shop and have them deal with it ?
  20. Im installing a winch and im not sure were to tie in the keyed power on wire. Any recommendations guys?
  21. I decided to go with Dyneema cable. My winch has a hole through the drum that widens on the back side. The new cable has no end, it's just cut off. I am worried that I will need a lot of line some day and pull to much out and end up with a cable no longer attached to the winch. I thought about knotting the cable after slipping it through so it couldn't come out but decided against it. I ended up tying a couple shoe strings near the end so I know to stop. I would rather have a better safeguard . What do you guys do?
  22. I bought a new 2012 425i this past Tuesday and installed the Arctic Cat 1436-187 winch. I cant find a listing for a wireless remote or cross reference # for one from Warn. I called Warn and they said even though it is a Warn winch the Warn wireless will not work because A.C. has their own wiring. I find this hard to swallow since the stock controller is just a 3 pole momentary rocker switch. Might have to change an end or 2 but there has to be a way Has any one else converted one of these to wireless & what part/kit or brand did you did you use? I think I will also try to leave my toggle hooked up in case of a dead remote battery.
  23. Choosing a Winch

Which winch would you guys prefer for a Honda 500 Foreman 4 X 4? The Superwinch 2500 or Warn 2500 RT?
  24. This is just an FYI, the 2012 Brute Force 300 4x2 has a Warn winch mounting plate factory installed. Now they say in their website and brochures it accepts warn winches, but no other winches are listed. I am here to tell you that i have mounted a Superwinch LT3000 with no problems at all as far as installation, the Superwinch bolted right up quite nice to the Brute Forces mounting plate. Just an FYI !!! As this is the new Kawasaki Brute Force 300 4x2.
  25. Bought a winch

My father in law grabbed a superwinch LT2000 from cabelas and I'll be damned if I can't find a mounting plate for it. Amazon eBay and even the manufacturers website is vague in whether that model winch has a plate for my quad. 01 foreman 400. Any ideas? Return it?
