  1. Have a 2003 kfx 400 decided to go for a ride and after 10 minutes it started to bog down after giving it gas.It starts right up and idles like it was new.It bogs down after reving it up will run all day at idle.The only warning i got was it did backfire a few weeks back and conked out drove it back to the garage and parked it.What could this possible be.Spark plug? Cloged carb? or electronics. Could use some help .

OK long story short....bike was running great no problems and i was back in the woods one day and it stalled .It wouldnt restart ,kept wanting to but it wouldnt.I towed it home.It sat in garage for a week ,i would try starting it every couple days ,it wouldnt.Then one day it fires right up.I kept starting it once a week with no problems.Then after a month same thing just wouldnt start.I but a battery tender on it for a day, then it fired right up,problem fixed i thought.So i turned it off and tried again and it just turns......IM going crazy over this thing,the battery is good..... Any help would be super
  3. I hadn't driven my Kodiak for a two months, and since it was low on fuel, the first thing I did was filled it up to maybe 7/8 full. Getting ready to start it, I rotated the fuel selector switch to "on" and within seconds I smelled and saw fuel dripping onto the floor. I quickly turned it off and the fuel gradually stopped - I can repeat this. The fuel is flowing from the hose that is connected to the bottom of the carb, and routes around to the left side toward the wheel well. Any idea what's going on here? It ran fine the last time I had it out. Thanks...
  4. I have a 2003 LTZ 400 that i bought a few days ago. The quad was running fine until last night. I let my brother ride it down the street and back and i didnt notice anything etong with bike. Then my neighbors friend came over and said "can i ride it?" I said "sure" so he ripped it down the road all fine and when he got back it died right in front of us. My brother said it was dieing on him also. He also said that he wasnt using the clutch to shift. I told him he was an idiot. Im throwing that in there incase that caused a problem as well. But today i go to check it to make sure its getting fuel which it is and replaced the spark plug incase it wasnt getting spark but it is. So i started it and it was having a problem starting then i got started and was reving at idle high. So i took it around the block and it died on me a little bit down, so i try to restart it and it started so i kicked it into 1st and it kinda launched on me and started going with the clutch all the way in. Then it died right after and wasnt running right during that process and was idleing all over the place and just died and now i cant get it started it again. Before it would start without the choke or priming it. It would start real quick now i cant figure if it needs to be rejetted or something else. Air filter looks clean also. But any help would be gratelly appreciated!
  5. I have an 03 ltz 400 that has a crack in the left engine case right by the shifter. Wanting to know if that is a common problem with the motor? Thanks!

  8. Hello, well back to where I was last year with this carb. Took my 250 to the mountains for the first time this year and blue smoke, too much gas again. I can't believe that this carb gives me this much trouble. Seems like the choke is stuck but the cable moves freely. Anyone else ever experience this issue? Do you think a new choke cable would maybe resolve this?http://www.quadcrazy.com/atvforum/images/smilies/arghh.gif OK it was the choke. Put on all new cable and plunger and she is running 100% again. So now the question is, is the carb getting worn out where the plunger needle goes in the small hole and when I use the choke the needle end doesn't get lined back up with the hole?? We'll see how it runs and now that I know what the issue is I can always pull the choke plunger out and reinstall if I start having this issue again.
  9. I have a 2003 predator 500 that is a real pain to get started when cold. If I can get it started at all. It has spark, is getting fuel, and cranks like normal. I have disassembled and cleaned the carb. Have also tried switching out the carb. No noticeable change in attempting to start. Have swapped out spark plug and made sure the gap is set correctly. Have looked at fuel pump and appears to be in working order. Have taken to air tube off and noticed a lot of back pressure out of carb. Does anyone have any advise for me or come across the same symptoms?
  10. Hi Folks; Has anybody on here installed a winch on a 2003 Magnum 2x4? I am using a Cycle Country adapter plate (only one I could find), but am having a bit of trouble getting it all to fit properly, and am looking for someone that may have done this install and/or may have some pics of the installation.   11. I have a 2003 Yamaha Beartracker 250. A few days ago I decided I'd ride it down to a friend's house a couple miles down the road. I had done it before so I didn't think I was taking any risks. As I was headed down the road in 5th gear, I usually don't push the throttle all the way down, but with a car coming behind me, I had to push it down all the way in 5th gear for 3 or 4 seconds. All the sudden I lost all power and stalled into a driveway. The battery was completely dead so I charged it up for 15 minutes and it was good to go as could be. When I try to start it, it will turn over and over but there's no combustion. The spark is good. The I've tried spraying carb spray into the carbeurator and air filter. No results. Any suggestions? I've tried researching the problem since and have found nothing.

  13. I am about at my wits end. Took the 250 back to the dealer repair shop AGAIN. Had it in there two months ago for a bad smoking issue. I thought it was to much fuel and washing the oil off the cylinder and burning it. They said it was the head. So I purchased new valves, valve guides, oil seals and had the head professionally done. So $225 later I had a great looking head. Well while I had the ATV apart this far I also got new rings for the piston. Mic'd everything out and everything was in spec. Put it back together and seemed like it smoked a little at the house (5000 feet above sea level). Took it to the mountains (9000 feet above seal level) for Sept. bear hunting and couldn't use it. Smoked worse than before and couldn't run it past half throttle or it would flood itself out. So brought it back home and it is back at the shop again. I say it is something in the carb that isn't set right or wrong jet????????? Anyone have any other ideas that it could be?
  14. :confused:Can anyone tell me how to fix an oil leak where the right axle comes out of the diff.?The axle on the right side has a large cast iron piece that I dont know if it comes off or is part of the axle. I NEED HELP!!!
  15. Hi guys I have a 2003 ds650 I have couple of questions. First one is when I do a oil change what kind of oil do I use? And when I put oil back into it do I just put it in the oil tank by the head light? And also can anyone tell me what it the Allen bolt that's on the left side when sitting on it it's by the clutch.
  16. Hey everyone! Working on a 400ex for a friend of my mom's because it will only start when you jump the solenoid. I have pretty much gone through all the wiring from the battery up to the plug for the start button and nothing is broken or connected incorrectly. I tested the yellow/green and yellow/red wires that come from solenoid and they both read 0 volts as they should. The key switch reads 12v as I believe it should as well. What has me stumped is that the black wire that comes out of the start button assembly reads different voltage numbers, although I know it should be 12v. Is it the start button for sure or could something else be causing me to get that reading? Thanks and sorry for the long post
  17. My atv starts with the first pull every time and idles good but when I give it some throttle, a raddling noise happens and the atv doesnt want to move. If I give it more throttle and the rpm are very high, the atv moves forward a little bit. Not sure what to do. Thanks for looking
  18. Sometimes gas will drip to almost steady flow out of the port in the bottom of the carb bowl. Ive taken the carb apart and bent the float, but still, from time to time, gas pours or just drips out. Any ideas?
  19. Hello everyone... I just purchased my Polaris Sportsman 500 and while riding the other day I went over bump and lost all lights, including speedo/shift indicated gauge and also electric fan that comes on when I turn key to on. Thanks for any help in advance!
  20. I am looking for the service manual LIT-11616-BT-25. I know where I can buy one. I am more interested in a shared electronic version, or just some parts of the electrical section. I have a no spark situation and am trying to trouble shoot myself.
  21. At the end of last Winter my snowplow cable broke and now I finally need to get around to replacing it. Original cable was 1/8" but I think I can upgrade to 3/16" - anyone have any experience there? It's a Yamaha branded plow w/ a Warn (I think) manual lift. There's a ball-end on the cable, so not sure if that complicates matters and I need to get a pre-made cable. Appreciate any insight
  22. How is it changing these? The manual elaborates on measurements and cautions about damaging the seal if its mis-aligned.
  23. $500 used not working $26 carb kit $11 throttle cable $21 Decals Went down to frame, sand prime paint. $7 Oil Filter Fixed airbox intake boot Went with RED highlights and decals to make it *Snap* Fixed cracked plastics (new are $400!!!!)
  24. Hello all, hope someone can help me out. Just did an overhaul on this 500 TIS and I still have a carb issue. This is one of those carbs with two additional rubber diaphs in it. When ridding in H it seems to be starving for gas and quits all the time. When ridding in L it works better until you really need some power then same thing, starving for gas. I have all the settings per the manual. Can anyone give me a clue as to where I may need to make an adjustment?
  25. I bought this quad not running. The previous owner started putting an XR400 engine into it and had started taking apart the 400EX motor. He said the piston was shot on the 400EX. I took it apart the rest of the way and found out the piston was busted and scrathced and so was the bottom of the cylinder. I took the XR400 engine back out and took the whole top end off and put it on the 400EX bottom end. When I put it together I put the piston on TDC with the T showing in the timing window and installed the cam with the two marks even with the head and the 3rd pointing up. Before I put the carb back on I hit the throttle to see if fuel was squirting out and some did. I checked to see if there was spark and I am getting a nice blue spark. The decompression plunger and spring are in still and seemed to be ok when I pushed on it a little. Hit the starter button, engine turns over, piston moves up and down, cam turns. Still wont start. I dont have a compression tester or a feeler gauge so I am trying to rule everything else out before I spend the money for those. Any ideas would be great. I just got this quad and never rebuilt one before. Although I have been an Army mechanic for the last 5 years and do my own mechanic work so I do know most of what I am doing.
