About Me

My Garage

  1. Hi, I'm having a serious issue with my 99 lakota. Earlier today I went to go for a ride and when I put it in gear it stalled out in gear for whatever reason, now it will not go back into neutral, when trying to get it out of gear a friend and myself pushed the quad back and fourth and I managed to get the gears to shift all the up to 5th but going back down it shifted really soft into 2nd and will not get to 1st or neutral. So I decided to tear apart the engine, I'm reading the Clymers manual to check for things that may be wrong, I'm thinking possibly the shifter and the star gear that shifts the gears might not be connecting correctly. to even look at that I have to remove both the primary and secondary clutches. The Clymers manual tells me to remove the primary by first removing the recoil starter and hold the rotor bolt to unscrew the clutch bolt. When I tried that the rotor bolt broke loose, so I decided to try to hold the rotor still and that is spinning. So now both of those ideas/methods have failed and I'm plum out of ideas on how to get that nut loose, then I'll have the same issue with the nut on the secondary clutch. According to Clymers the clutch nut is torqued to 107 ftlbs the only other thing I can think of is jamming the sprockets but thats not an option cause they will more than likely break a tooth or more. Anyone have any ideas on what I can try to do? The way it's looking now the bike is done Thanks
  2. Ride Review: As the owner of a pretty tricked out 2008 Kawasaki Teryx, I am very familiar with the Teryx. My Teryx did not stay stock long, but I recently spent three days in a bone stock 2008 Teryx on a ride to the Grand Canyon. The 2008 Teryx is a great machine, but my biggest complaint was that it came out with carbs instead of fuel injection. In less that a year since the first Teryxs hit dealer floors, Kawasaki dealers are already selling 2009 Teryxs with EFI. The New digital fuel inject on the Teryx is really nice. The engine starts right up and idles smoothly. On acceleration, the 2009 Teryx felt more crisp and seemed to get up to top speed a little quicker. While it is not a night and day difference, I definitely preferred everything about the EFI on the 2009 over the carburetors on the 2008. Next up on the list of what's new is a fuel gauge. I know it doesn't seem like something to get that excited about, but I do some long distance rides, and the fuel level display takes the mystery out of "I wonder how much fuel I have left?" The Teryx Sport has upgraded aluminum wheels which not only look much better, but are also 2.2 lbs. lighter than the standard steel wheels. Losing unsprung weight not only requires less energy to get the tires spinning, but also helps the suspension work better. And as a little bonus, the aluminum wheels are actually strong that their steel counterpart. Suspension is on the 2009 Teryx Sport has a few upgrades as well. The gas-charged Kayaba shocks have reservoirs all the way around to help reduce fade in rough terrain. The preload adjustment is step-less, and they have fully adjustable rebound and compression (high and low speed) damping. Although we did not have any opportunities to jump the new Teryx Sport, we did get into some nasty whoops and hard g-outs. I felt the Teryx Sport suspension handled the terrain better than a standard Teryx suspension. The ride through the light chop was a bit smoother than a standard Teryx and when we got into the whoops I felt a little more comfortable as well. Although I was able to bottom out the front shocks on a few hard g-outs, a standard shock would have gone to the stops more often and with more force. Overall, even though I did not spend any time trying to fine tune the adjustments on the new Sport shocks, I think they are a worthy improvement over standard shocks. The Lime Green plastic on the Teryx Sport is a great color. Much more sharp than the drab green found on the 2008 Teryx. And with all the UTVs out in the dunes in Glamis, there is no doubt that you are in a Kawasaki when you are driving it. The 2009 Kawasaki Teryx 750 FI 4x4 Sport has a MSRP of $11,899. A full list of all new 2009 Kawasaki Teryx improvements and photo galleries can be found here. 3. I am having what I think is ignition problems. My 1994 Bayou 300 seems to flood very easy when starting. At first I thought it was a carb problem but while testing the spart I noticed that there is no spark while the engine is turning over. When you let off of the ignition swith there is one spark. But only when you let off of the ignition switch. It has a new coil, plug wire, and plug. Any ideas? I dont know if it is the ignition box, or maybe the ignition switch. Any help would be appreciated
  4. Hi, my name is Paul.....I have a 2006 750 Brute Force, my problem is that it pops through the exhaust at a idle, I've adjusted the valves to specs, although it took three tries to get it right. Not sure where to go next, other then it popping through the exhaust at idle it runs as good as it ever has, off idle there is no popping, Any help with this would be much appreciated
  5. My 20005 Prarie 700 won't go over 27-31 mph and actually loses power when you give it all the throttle it has, anyone have any ideas or ever had this problem before?
  6. I bought a 96 bayou 300 4x4 would like a little more clearance underneath as i plan to use this to plow this winter for a few people. the problem is that with the plow on i cannot load the atv on my own as the mount area of the push bars catches on my tailgait. Would a high lifter lift and wheel spacers to maintain the width be a good idea or a bad idea? let me know as i have never used either and this is my first Utility atv. thanks I have heard about problems with lifts and cv boots being a problem is this true?
  7. How to take off the generator to get to the fly wheel,I know I need a special tool, where can I buy the tool, thanks, are if anyone know how to get it off please tell me how!
  8. I've got a 2005 Brute Force 750 that just had the main timing chain replaced (It broke) along with a couple valves (Bent). The engine work was done by my Mechanic but I removed & reinstalled the motor. Put it all back together and it fired up nicely. I let it idle for a bit and pulled the dipstick to make sure I hade enough oil in it. Major pressure coming out of the crankcase, it was as if I had my hand in front of the exhaust! Tons of coolant in there as well! The guy who rebuilt it is very good and I know I put it all back together correctly. He obviously missed something, anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Pete
  9. How hard is it to change the outer seals on the rear differential mine are leaking fluid and I have no idea on how to change them out any help would be great thanks

  15. I have a 1988 kawasaki mojave klf 110b it will start right up and runs fine but when you shift down you have to use your foot and pick it up and then push it down to get it to shift and it does the same thing to shift up it is like there should be a spring on it to pick it up or something please help
  16. Bought 4 wheeler for kids. Used to run and soon as it was put in gear it died. I have put new carburater, new plug and battery. The neutral light won't come on. I replaced the solenoid, then the positive battery cable and today put new relay assembly on. Still no neutral light. Not getting any juice and I don't know why.
  17. I hope someone can help with this problem. When trying to start the ATV after it has been sitting for as little as overnight, it has a VERY difficult time starting. The starter motor is fine, tested within specs. Once the motor has started, you can let it run for a minute or so, shut it off, and it fires right back up. If I run it for about 500 yds and turn it off for an hour, it will start right back up. It just seems that overnight or longer creates this starting issue. Air temperature doesn't affect this. I've replaced the carburetor, a new battery, & a new spark plug. All wires related to starting were tested and were within specs. I thought maybe it was an issue with some electronics that get heated by the motor and function properly, so I put a hair dryer to different components to heat them up to see if that fixed, no joy. I've been told that these are usually hard to start, but this is almost impossible and I"m afraid I'm wearing out the starter motor. I don't understand why once it starts I can turn it off immediately and it'll fire back up. Has anyone had a similar experience or can recommend next steps, either testing or part replacement? Thanks.
  18. I have a 99 kawasaki prairie 300 4 wheeler that was stolen from me, and i recently got it back. It had been hot wired, and ignition busted out. I need to know what are the color of the wires that connect to the ignition switch? Thanks in advance.

  20. Hello everyone! I would like to excuse myself in advance, as I am not very smart in mechanics... So, bear with me. Last year my girlfriend gave me a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 300, as she was moving and fourwheelers werent allowed in city limits. Recently, I have run into a little problem. My fourwheeler will idle just fine for a bit, but whenever I give it any throttle, it will kill the motor or nearly kill it. Eventually, if it idles too long, the motor dies. Im not sure why its doing this. My dad thinks it is the fuel filter, but he also isnt familiar with small engines. When I start my fourwheeler, I generally let it idle for about 4-6 minutes. It also never has needed to be choked to be started really, just a little tap on the throttle. Im not sure what it is, and need opinions. Thanks!
  21. Hello I've been looking into snorkelling my KVF for those " hold my beer watch this" moments And I haven't been able to find any aftermarket kits and was wondering if any one here has do da set up out of PVC piping and how they did it so you do t have to redo the jetting of the carb if possible and if the have pics of they're set up Cheers Nick

  24. Thanks for the welcome to quadcrazy. I am still looking for the PDF service manual for a 2000 Kawasaki 300 Prairie 2x4 automatic. I have had noooooo luck to this point. I have searched the forum as much as I know how to, sort of new to this computer thing. I did find a page of PDF manuals posted by oxidized_black but that one was not on the list. I PM'ed him on his website a couple of days ago but have not heard back from him. Or......maybe I just am looking in the wrong place for his answer. At any rate my rig is down and I use it every day, so I neeeeed help!! I downloaded one for a 300 Bayou but it was not the same. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
  25. My ATV will not start. The ATV sat for a couple of years so the carb and gas tanked were pretty gumed up. I rebuilt the carb, replaced the battery and choke cable and cleaned out the tank. The ATV still acts like is not getting any gas. If you put a couple drops of gas on the spark plug and reinsert it then it will start for a second. As soon as it burns that gas it sputters out. This ATV has been hard to start ever since I bought it new. Does anybody have any ideas?
