  1. I am hoping that someone here can give me some more ideas. Our poor old red 300 won't start. We rode it, running fine, shut it off and now it won't start. Have gas to the carb and spark at the plug. Valves are adjusted. Still won't start. Tried a little starting fluid in the air chamber and still won't start. This poor old machine has 7000 miles on it. That has to be an Arctic Cat record! And I have never touched the engine besides setting the valves. Unfortunatly it looks like it only has 60 psi of compression. Don't understand how it could be running fine and then nothing. Someone give me a clue as to what I am missing or what to check. I was going to rebuild the top end this next spring but didn't want to do that this winter in a non-heated garage. Any help?
  2. Hi, I'm having a serious issue with my 99 lakota. Earlier today I went to go for a ride and when I put it in gear it stalled out in gear for whatever reason, now it will not go back into neutral, when trying to get it out of gear a friend and myself pushed the quad back and fourth and I managed to get the gears to shift all the up to 5th but going back down it shifted really soft into 2nd and will not get to 1st or neutral. So I decided to tear apart the engine, I'm reading the Clymers manual to check for things that may be wrong, I'm thinking possibly the shifter and the star gear that shifts the gears might not be connecting correctly. to even look at that I have to remove both the primary and secondary clutches. The Clymers manual tells me to remove the primary by first removing the recoil starter and hold the rotor bolt to unscrew the clutch bolt. When I tried that the rotor bolt broke loose, so I decided to try to hold the rotor still and that is spinning. So now both of those ideas/methods have failed and I'm plum out of ideas on how to get that nut loose, then I'll have the same issue with the nut on the secondary clutch. According to Clymers the clutch nut is torqued to 107 ftlbs the only other thing I can think of is jamming the sprockets but thats not an option cause they will more than likely break a tooth or more. Anyone have any ideas on what I can try to do? The way it's looking now the bike is done Thanks
  3. Got a good deal on an 89 bayou 300. Couple questions. First is in the picture I have posted. Note the two wires at the bottom of the pic (white and black/yellow). They were not hooked up to anything and Im not sure if they are supposed to go to the battery or somewhere else and what they are for. Second question is I had the carb apart for a cleaning. The vaccum operated slide has a spring under the cap with a plastic clip that goes inside the spring. Is there a proper location inside the spring for that clip. Right now it is just below half way inside the spring. It runs alright but keeps fouling the plug. Pulled the plug off, cleaned it and dried it off and it starts back up but not sure how long before itll do it again, last time it was about 20 minutes of riding and it bogged out and wouldnt start.
  4. My Honda Fourtrax won't start. The starter is kicking the engine over, but it won't start. It sat for about a year while I was living away, so I thought it might have been bad gas. I completely drained the fuel, flushed the fuel lines and filled it with fresh gas. However, still nothing. It started and ran fine the last time I used it. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this? It could be fuel or electrical at this point. Is there an easy way to rule one or the other out? Thanks
  5. I am having what I think is ignition problems. My 1994 Bayou 300 seems to flood very easy when starting. At first I thought it was a carb problem but while testing the spart I noticed that there is no spark while the engine is turning over. When you let off of the ignition swith there is one spark. But only when you let off of the ignition switch. It has a new coil, plug wire, and plug. Any ideas? I dont know if it is the ignition box, or maybe the ignition switch. Any help would be appreciated

I bought a 96 bayou 300 4x4 would like a little more clearance underneath as i plan to use this to plow this winter for a few people. the problem is that with the plow on i cannot load the atv on my own as the mount area of the push bars catches on my tailgait. Would a high lifter lift and wheel spacers to maintain the width be a good idea or a bad idea? let me know as i have never used either and this is my first Utility atv. thanks I have heard about problems with lifts and cv boots being a problem is this true?
  8. I recently posted pics of a burned up stock regulator/rectifier on a 2000 Suzuki King Quad 300. It lasted about 14 yrs. and the group advised replacing it. After doing this and replacing the battery it started having the same symptoms before the other unit died. The engine would run very rough unless the headlight was switched on. Then while riding one day the engine died completely. Any ideas as to what might be killing this particular part. The part was not that hard to replace but runs about $95.00 and is a pain to access. Want to get this tested and repaired once and for all. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  9. I took apart the carburator to clean out and I can't remember exactly where the springs that are inside the float are supposed to go I've tried to look up schematics but I think I am missing a spring maybe need helpt:confused::confused:

  12. Hello everyone, I have a new to me 86 Bayou 300 that I just bought last night to get around the property. It wouldn't start when I bought it but it did turn over with starting fluid, PO said the carb neeeded cleaned. I cleaned the carb today but need to get the choke wired up as it was not wired up when purchased. I'm hoping one of you can help me get this choke wired up. Coming from the carb it has 2 wires. 1 is yellow and 1 is black. The PO said I needed to ground one and put the other one on a switch. Should I do it this way or is there another/better way to do it? I'd really appreciate any help I could get!! Thanks in advance!
  13. my quad wont start no power when the key is on, no lights no neutral light. it was running fine put it in reverse and it died. and nothing.. battery is good starter and solenoid are good... checked the fuses they are good (range fro 10 to 15 Amp). there is a big one that did not test or checked but it is expensive to replace, but not sure what it does anyways any ideas ?   16. I have a 1998 Suzuki King Quad 300 that runs rough when I'm pushing wet snow, or when I drive through taller wet grass. Can anyone suggest what might be exposed in the undercarriage that should affect how the King Quad runs when it gets wet?
  17. Just bought this quad and it is in pretty good shape. It is missing a small plastic piece right above the headlamp cover right in front of handle bars. Does anybody know where I can find this piece? Now the CV axle. The left inner CV boot is ripped and wheel hesitates when making a sharp turn in that direction. I am trying to find a replacement or a fix, but have been recieving different suggestions for the fix. First one was buy a replacement CV axle. Second said to that the inner was it's own build and that if you ought a CV axle it would only e a half shaft. Just confused and need some guidence. Thank you guys!
  18. I bought it knowing it needed some work. I have 2 questions.. For the things I need; Battery (currently a dead Ever Start 12a-A2) New plug New plug wire Fuel line Brakes My question is, where is the bests ace to get them? I got a great deal on the ATV, I don't want to spend too much on the parts. Second. I toyed around with it today after cleaning it up. I wanted to take the rack off, but it looks like the bolt at the top that goes into the plastics is welded tight... Not sure how I would get it lose. Anyways.. Looking forward to learning from you guys.
  19. I was disc-ing my field to plant some food for the animals and my ATV started getting bogged down by what I was pulling. After about 20 minutes of disc-ing it started running slow, had some smoke coming from it and shut off. I can pull start it but the electric start wont work and the lights on the dash don't come on. I am thinking its an electrical problem. Does anybody know if there is a fuse or resister that popped? Thanks
  20. ok I just picked up this bike and the guy that had it cut a bunch of the wires.... so what I need is to know what wires coming out of the CDI hook up to just so I can get it to spark both the key and kill switch wires are gone I dont need it to be 100 just need to know if it will fire... this is what I have... connector 1 green black-blue stripe connector 2 orange black-white stripe connector 3 white-blue stripe thank you for your help
  21. The quad starts but wont idle sometimes it idles high then dies. When riding it will be fine for a while then it will cut out. It has lots of power, is it time to rebuild the carb or is there other issues?
  22. I recently bought this quad. When I shift into gear it wants to take off on me or stall if I hold the brake. I can get it moving if I use the shifter like a clutch and let it down easy. I have manual and adjusted clutch but it seems to be all or nothing meaning it won't go at all. What is my next move? New clutch? Any ideas?
  23. I hope someone can help with this problem. When trying to start the ATV after it has been sitting for as little as overnight, it has a VERY difficult time starting. The starter motor is fine, tested within specs. Once the motor has started, you can let it run for a minute or so, shut it off, and it fires right back up. If I run it for about 500 yds and turn it off for an hour, it will start right back up. It just seems that overnight or longer creates this starting issue. Air temperature doesn't affect this. I've replaced the carburetor, a new battery, & a new spark plug. All wires related to starting were tested and were within specs. I thought maybe it was an issue with some electronics that get heated by the motor and function properly, so I put a hair dryer to different components to heat them up to see if that fixed, no joy. I've been told that these are usually hard to start, but this is almost impossible and I"m afraid I'm wearing out the starter motor. I don't understand why once it starts I can turn it off immediately and it'll fire back up. Has anyone had a similar experience or can recommend next steps, either testing or part replacement? Thanks.
  24. Hi, I have a 1991 Suzuki King Quad 300. I bought it not long ago, and it has never run right. I bought a new diaphragm for it. It's sealed in that department. It barely ran good before, and actually I got it to run fairly good, with a good pull with a clamp in air cleaner. I put a snorkel on it, making sure to use pipe that would allow an ID as big as the carb intake flange, so there's no restrictions, and the same clamp on air cleaner. I went through the carb again, even put a top quality Japanese rebuild kit in it. It starts and idles perfectly. Has good power from idle to about 1/3, then anything past 1/3 throttle, or thereabouts, it just bogs down and completely dies. If I pull the choke in, I can get it to half throttle without it bogging down or dying. It pops and backfires and sputters the whole time, then past a certain point the engine acts like I hit the kill switch. It IS getting gas in the carb by the way, I put on a electronic fuel pump which helped things immensely. I put on a fuel pressure regulator and got the fuel to around 2 PSI. I am at about 5,500 feet elevation, and the main jet is a 120. I am considering coring out the main jet to a larger size to see if that helps anything. This quad is already such a gas hog, but maybe if it is jetted right it won't be so had? Edit: It does actually run a tad better when it is warmed up.
  25. bought this atv back in 2001 and in the lst few years it has only had a couple weeks of use per year.. the main reason is it has got cold blooded and wont start good.. have had 2 different qualified people rebuild carb to try and solve starting issues and it still isnt right.. according to the info i have found out here and other areas it has the x version carb in it which is no longer available,, i am looking to possibly replace the carb with something but dont know who made the original and do not know the model of a comparable carb,, the valves have been checked and it doesnt have alot hours on it.. the best way to start this thing is to put 2 fingers over the the top breather tub if you can get your hand in there and try to get it on the sweet spot with choke and start button or throttle lever.. so if any of you have some input on this head ache i am all ears thanks for your responses.. also the choke doesnt seem to do alot for it.. in the past i have had to runt he choke part open or closed to get it to run regular.. also have had it back fire big time on a couple early mourning runs tot he tree stand.. which is just what the doctor didnt order:)
