  1. Problem: The ATV starts and runs at idle perfectly. But as soon as I open the throttle, the engine starts to slow down until it stops. On the attached video you can hear the sound of how it works: see video below Prehistory: there is a Polaris Sportsman 500 1998, which for about 1.5 years stood in repair, including also replacing CDI with one taken from the same ATV. Finally, the vehicles were on wheels, traveled several kilometers and overheated - forgot to fill the antifreeze Came back home in small moves. The next trip started well, but after 10 km there was a feeling of a small drop in power (even as the vehicle got warm completely) but still drives. Next trip - the situation is repeated. The next test of ATV through time and a huge loss of power from the very beginning. The engine sneezes, does not want to go more than 5 mph. What has been done: the carburetor has been replaced with a new one (inexpensive, $ 40), a new spark plug, a new ignition coil, the engine head has been removed, the piston is in good condition, valves were corrected - but the problem was definitely not in them. Ignition control unit is suspected. Who faced similar? Please help in solving the problem. Thanks in advance.
  2. Looking for downloadable repair manual for my kq 300 . Nut. Saftey switch messin up / won't start
  3. Looking for anybody who can point me towards a free service manual for 1998 Big Bear 350. I found the sticky thread but all the links, from 2012, no longer work. If anybody has one please let me know. Thanks
  4. Hello I am new hear. I just purchased a 1998 Big Bear. It was sitting for 3yrs in storage. The guy I bought it from got the carb cleaned and it runs good. I am having problems with the neutral light. When I shift into neutral the light does not come on. If I mess with the gear shifter, I can get it to come on so I can start it. I can still pull the hand brake and start it that way. I cant find the neutral safity switch on this machine. Any suggestions would be great.
  5. I have taken the cover off and don't see why, but it rubs the shroud/ belt guard at a low idle, there is a small hole starting to rub thru it?
  6. I have a 1998 Suzuki King Quad 300 that runs rough when I'm pushing wet snow, or when I drive through taller wet grass. Can anyone suggest what might be exposed in the undercarriage that should affect how the King Quad runs when it gets wet?
  7. my big bear is having starting problems. i have replaced the starter, solenoid, and battery. the electric start turns the starter motor but i still have to pull the pull start once to get it started while hitting the electric start like the starter motor isnt turning fast enough. could it be a faulty solenoid? maybe not pushing enough power to the starter motor? if so how much power should be coming out of the solenoid if i was to put a meter on it? any suggestions, ideas?
  8. Have been using it to plow my driveway, worked fine until about a week ago. Suddenly the front wheels are the only one engaging and the rear wheels are not. Shifts and goes forward and reverse just fine but with front wheels only. Thanks Any Ideas
  9. The quad starts but wont idle sometimes it idles high then dies. When riding it will be fine for a while then it will cut out. It has lots of power, is it time to rebuild the carb or is there other issues?
  10. needing a lottba help, ive got a 98 big bear 350 motor was rebuilt 6 months ago, by someone i dont know it will not rev past 14 throttle, will not pull itself, valves are good, carb is good, timing is good, starts quick and easy, 120 psi with my compression tester, new plug, fresh battery, only thing that gets my thinking is that there is a lot of pressure coming in and out with stroke out of the crankcase breather on top of the head. any insight would be greatly appreciated as i am at my witts end
  11. Hey all, My Dad's birthday is coming up fast, and I've been wanting to fix his Warrior for him. While he was at SEMA I've gotten almost all of the work done, and now I've hit the last item to fix: the carb. I am so close to having this thing running, but now that I need to take the float bowl off, it won't come. The screws are almost all threaded, I've WD-40'd the shit out of it... It seems like someone had once thread-locked them in. If anyone has any tips to try, that'd be great... but my bigger question is where can I find a new carb for it online? I don't mind buying a new one, it'd probably make him happier, but If I could get this thing running before his birthday it'd be great. Thanks in advance :cheers2c:
  12. i have a 1998 grizzly 600 it had no spark and after replacing the pick up coil i got it to run but it is now misfiring and backfiring horribly and won't idle and is extremely hard to get running if done every thing the service manual has told me to do with no difference if any body has any advice it would be greatly appreciated
  13. Hi all, I am posting this hoping that someone has seen it before and knows of a solution. TIA for any help. I had to change my pickup coil and now I have an oil leak between the engine and a stator cover. I tried fixing it 3 times by replacing gasket, replacing gasket and using the right stuff sealer in addition to the gasket. Still leaking oil. The last time I went in I thought that it may be leaking where the wire harness comes out. I used lots of right stuff around it to seal it but still no luck. Seems like it is leaking somewhere between the wire harness and the right bottom bolt (it collects on the bottom of that bolt and then drips but it looks like it originates higher up the cover. Thanks again for any help. Kafel
  14. I cant find help anywhere so Hope this is the place, I traded for a 98 350 bigbear 4x4, has no brakes at all, so I have back brake assembly apart and I think it just needed cleaning and adjustment, theres a thing I guess its called the camshaft that lifts shoes up against drum. it needs adjusting, in back it has this arrow, should the can lay horizontial front to rear or is there a certain position, any help would be great:
  15. The left front axle seems to have a small leak and some play at left front differential where axle goes into. Hoe much play is normal? The service manual I downloaded does not cover this in detail. I have built GM 10 bolt,12bolt and Dana 70-80 diffs. How hard it it to replace on a 1998 KQ 300. I know how to set pinion depth and backlash on trucks but have never tackled a atv front end. Thanks
  16. The rear axle has some slop in the CV boot where it goes into the transmission. How much play is normal. It is not making any noise. Can that joint be replaced and if so where to get parts. I have replaced CV joints and u-joints in cars just not atv's Thanks
  17. Changed oil, removed and cleaned float, needle and seat, and carb, changed oil again, still, several gallons of gas seep I to crank case, any ideas please? Not very good at setting the float so I dread rebuilding the carb.
  18. i have a 300 king quad im working on! it was brought to me for a carb cleaning! I have cleaned the carb it was plugged solid above the needle valve, as it was run out of gas. the fuel pump was also plugged and full of rust, so a new pump has been put on. after the carb cleaning it would only run with the choke on and pet cock on pre, now that the pet cock has been repaired and works properly, and I took the carb apart again and went over it. now it wants to flood the cylinder and plug. it also sprays a bit of gas out the intake side. it will start when the plug is dried out and the gas is burnt out of the cylinder, it will not rev out and only runs if you hold the throttle wide open! it has me baffled! also the vacuum at the top of the carb, should it go to the pump or petcock? if anyone has a downloadable manual for this bike it would also help! thanks in advance for an help
  19. I own a 1998 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x2. It has hydraulic drum front brakes and mechanical single drum brake in rear. When I bought the quad a yr ago the brakes barely worked. I installed rebuild kit for brake master cylinder, replaced wheel cylinders up front, front/rear shoes, and replaced rear brake cable. The front brakes grab sort of ok now, but the rear barely grabs at all. On a side note; If I drive through any trails with muddy water, moisture is getting inside the drums. Worse in the rear drum. These drum brakes have never worked great. They slow me down but don't have enough bite to lock up the wheels. Now I have considered my drums may have worn thin, therefore causing the shoes to not make strong enough contact (???) I'm guessing. The front brakes are spooned out so they fit snug and they work just ok. The rears I have adjusted close to the maximum setting for the actuator arm. I read online about a Yamaha 1998 Big Bear 4x4 owner using a 2004 Big Bear 4x4 front disc brakes on it. He did have to dremel and drill out the lower ball joint to make new knuckles fit since the 04 knuckle has it's ball joint on bottom. It sounded cool and the owner claimed it stopped better. I'm considering a conversion, but it sounds expensive. I hate sinking $400+ worth of disc brake parts into a quad a bought for $500, and I already replaced the existing brake parts I previously listed. I'm just tired of my brakes working poorly and every time I get into some water on the trails the drums look like a septic tank inside the next day. I live in FL and this is the land of the Swamp. There is no avoiding mudholes and water. I would like some brakes that could survive any wet conditions. Any suggestions or helpful advice is appreciated.
  20. Hello My friends OK here go's so I have a 1998 500 4x4 Polaris Sportsman Could someone please tell me what oils I need for my bike I have Polaris premium 4 synthetic 10 W-40 for the motor I got that no problem Drained and changed after the fuel shut off leaked back and filled the motor with gas and oil It wasn't the needle valve and seat But I put a new carb kit in just in case after I changed the fuel shut off valve. Issues gone and runs great This is where I'm confused the front hubs when I checked them where almost dry so I have Polaris on demand drive hub fluid its very thin and blue in colour part # 2871654 Is this the right fluid for my year of bike 1998 This is where I'm getting confused again on the quick reference chart it tells me I need transmission oil Polaris synthetic gear case oil part # 2871478 I need this oil and where do I drain it and put it in the bike Is it at the rear of the bike in the middle of the rear end ?There is a small aluminum dip stick I can see and it is a little bit low on the stick I may just add some rather than change it because the oil looks clean on the stick Then quick reference chart it tells me I need front gear case oil Polaris front gear case oil part # 2871653 or API GL5 80-90 GEAR LUBE WHERE DOES THIS GO IN MY BIKE ??? I think I found it under the front wheels in the middle of the bike Its a small housing where the front drive hubs hook up Not sure if I use the same oil in front gear case as the front hubs the newer model bikes use the same oil in the front gear case as the outside front wheel hubs I think Could someone please give me a hand I'm just a little confused Thanks so much Old Comet

  22. Hello! I have a junk Arctic cat 1998 250 2x4 I'm parting out, and I'm wondering if the parts are worth selling, (I.E. worth time to mess with). Iv got part of the Engine and the Jug with Piston, no Head/Valves. I'm thinking of putting the parts on Ebay if there is any demand. Any help or question/ Comments welcome! Thanks, Mike
  23. Just pick this up today, every thing working and runs great. My question is the rear end. I checked the oil level and found none. What I did see looks like dried grease. How do I clean this and what do I put into the rear end, grease or oil? Can some one tell me where is the oil filter on my TRX300? Also looking for Service manual for my model.
