I own a 2007 Polaris Sportsman EFI X2 model and have for the past months been experiencing loads of issues. Basically the Sportsman will only start if the throttle lever is pushed and will not remain on idle. This situation has persisted for months now and I have replaced the following parts: Sparking Plug Fuel Injector Fuel Pump Fuel Filter Fuel Valve Fuel lines Power Control Module The last part replaced was the Power Control Module and the Sportsman was tested and worked fine on a couple of occasions which were days apart so much so that some weeks later I took the Sportsman for an extensive ride and it worked perfectly. This was three weeks ago and today I tried to start the ATV it worked fine a few minutes and decided to switch it off so that I could continue with some prep work. A few minutes later tried to start it up again but noticed that it would only start if the throttle lever was pushed and once I removed my finger from the throttle lever the engine would not stay in idle and would simply shut down. Several attempts were made to start this and also tried to re-adjust the setting by turning the built in wheel like mechanism in the throttle cable but it was to no avail. The above have been repeating itself on an off basis. Each time a part is replaced the ATV would work and then all of a sudden will not keep its idle. At this stage I cannot think of any other solution other than possibly some sensors which might have an intermitting fault but I cannot really say. Would greatly appreciate any assistance. Anyone have a problem with the Polaris instrument cluster/speedometer frozen(part # 3280453) ? Mine is always showing R and slow now(see photo), Did it go bad or can you reset it or is something else the problem. It is on a 2004 Sportsman 500

Tried to start my 850HL the other and had no spark. Changed the plugs, but while checking for spark noticed not getting fuel either. So no spark and no fuel. ECU? Anyone else have anything like this?

Charging issue? I have a 2017 Polaris Sportsman 570 EFI. Yesterday, I start the machine and it says low power (10.6-10.8). This machine is on its second battery. This is a new AGM battery with 50cca more than stock. Should I look at the regulator or stator? Thanks!!!

Hey guys, looking at getting a clutch kit for my '04 700 Twin w/EBS... whats the best clutch kit nowadays? My dad said back in the day (like 20 years ago) he used EPI, but again that was a lot time ago and things change. I was gonna go with them but I read some people said it actually made it so you needed more throttle to get moving, which isn't what I'm wanting. Looking to have better low-mid torque and responsiveness and I wanna be able to start moving with less throttle; recently rode his '22 570 and I was amazed how little you have to touch the throttle to get moving. I know this won't be as good, but hoping it'll at least improve it. Thanks guys

Hi I just got an Polaris sportsman 500 4x4 ATV the other day. I got it real cheap but I started to go into it because it didn't have compression so I bought a new piston and ring kit for it and installed it, but now when I try to start it all it does is shoot fire out the exhaust or the intake of the carburetor. And a timing is top dead center.;I think I can't really tell another way if it is or not. when I put it together I made sure to piston was on top and the cam lobes where facing down where are the cam sprocket is facing up. It has gas and spark. It did start a couple minutes ago but it didn't stay running and now it won't start. Do you think the valve need to be adjusted more to close better?I'm fixing to try that out and if that don't work what is the problem? Also I made sure everything was together good and right and change the oil and changed out the radiator fluid.

I have a 1999 Sportsman 500, it was running fine, than started to lose power in the winter, I adjusted the idle screw and away I went, than a few weeks ago it died, I have found that i am flooding the engine, compression was at 70PSI and due to the compression release mech. i assume i am good as it compared to the same PSI on a 2000 sportsman 500 i have. i cannot start the atv unless i go full throttle and it starts an runs for about 30 sec than dies, again it is flooded. i ordered a new carb off ebay as i could get one for around $40. put that in same issue, i have checked the timing, (good), valves out of adjustment i adjusted to .006 still same issue, i have found the exhaust lobe and rocker arm to have some wear, i have ordered new ones, but am looking for any other input in this area as well. would the exhaust cam and rocker arm cause the engine to flood? i have used a bore scope and the piston liner has good cross hatching still? any input would be great.

Hi im new to the site. I have a 99 sportsman 500. I has been sitting for about a year now. I bought a new battery for it the other day and now i dont have any power to anything but the winch. Any help would be great. I already cut the pouch and checked voltage on both sides of the circuit breaker.

I have a 2k Sportsman 335 and I think the carb needs rebuilt or replaced. If I don't turn off the petcock, it will dump fuel on the ground. I figure the float is stuck or the needle is bad. Fixing to rebuild my carb and was wondering what kit you suggest? I have been looking but most are chinese knockoffs.

Friday evening went riding, rode for a good hour or so everything was fine. I went to take a short ride to the restroom (less than 100 yds away) and all of the sudden everything flickered and then just died out. Accompanying the problem I noticed the killswitch completely locked up. Once daylight hit took the killswitch apart to find it had shorted out and melted the plastic inside. Has anyone else had anything similar to this and if so what did you do to fix the situation? I have a new killswitch on the way to replace the obvious problem but was wondering could there be a bigger issue at hand. We tested with a voltage meter to make sure everything was still getting power from the battery and as far as we could tell it was. Any advice/info would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

So yesterday I picked up a 07 polaris sportsman 800efi stealth edition for 3k. Will lead a pic ltr. In good shape. Here's what's wrong with it: The rpm needle doesn't work just like my other sportsman... not too worried ab that. The motor doesn't sound like it's running quite right and doesn't feel like it has much more power than my 500. I'm thinking it needs a tune up and some fresh oil.. but also it feels like it's running rich. It's a little buggy when you goose the throttle and sometimes farts when you let off (like I little backfire out the exhuast). I'm gonna check timing and valave clearence on the motor first but thinking of putting a tuner on it? Anybody got a suggestion? Mainly looking for more power.

Anyone know what the fuse terminal marked UNSWITCH does . Even with the key off it is causing a drain on my battery and I'm trying to figure out what that terminal goes to. It's a 10 amp fuse. If I pull it the "short" goes away. Thanks in advance.

Had a spark-plug break off, had to pull the head to get it extracted. Where the heck is the timing mark on the crank? Do I need to pull the stator or flywheel to find it? When I pulled the head I had the mark on the cam lined up pretty good but I cant remember if it was perfect and don't want to reassemble a tooth off and have to go back through the bear of pulling this thing back apart. I just rebuilt my 03 sportsman 400. Put everything back together added oil per the manual. Pinched off the oil tank vent line 2" away ran for 45 seconds then cut it off. Check oil level and it was still way high so I wasn't confident that it primed so I did it again. Checked again and it's the same. Remove the oil filter and it is dry. I did the procedure again and the same results. I'm worried to keep trying this as the only oil in the engine is what I used to lubricate the parts when reassembling the piston. The crankcase was drained as well. I Removed the oil tank and checked all the lines for obstructions and the screen filter and the vent hose and everything is clear. I even pulled a small vacuum on the oil tank while it was pulled off to make sure there were no leaks. The dipstick cap was on tight so I'm not sure why this thing is not priming. Anyone have any suggestions. I thought about pre-priming the oil lines from the oil tank to the crankcase to hopefully help the system prime. I'd like to be able to add some oil to the crankcase to so I wouldn't feel so bad about running the engine for another 60 seconds without oil. I dropped just a little bit of oil in the spark plug hole to help condition the sleeve right now. What do I do? Anyone had or heard of an oil pump failure on these. Btw oil pump is working fine before I did the top-end rebuild and the oil pump was not touched. Please help!!! Thanks all for any and all help.
